I just recently moved to Dallas, so I’m trying to find the best Restaurants and Pizza that I can find ..when I came across this Highly rated pizza/ Italian Restaurant.. So I decided to give it a try ..! First off the hostess and the couple of different servers I had were very beautiful / friendly .. I got a drink and the Meatballs for Happy Hour and a 10” meat lovers pizza .. the Meatballs were wonderfully cooked w sauce and whipped Ricotta cheese ..but the pizza was greasy and the crust had a lot of flour on the bottom and was burnt..
I was so looking forward to trying this local restaurant. I will start with the good. Bartenders were super nice and attentive. Fried ravioli were yummy, just wish there was a bit more sauce. The negatives: the left side of the bar is freezing. Seems they know of the issue...but nothing has been done? My husband's thin crust pizza kinda looked like a tortilla! He did like it, I was just thought it was a bit odd. Nothing outstanding, assuming it's meant to be a Romana style. Shrimp Fra Diavolo: 1. not spicy at all, 2. Shrimp were overcooked. 3. Mussels, something was off about them. Super gritty and didnt taste good. 4. Boxed pasta, which for an authentic Italian restaurant, I was hoping for fresh, but get that maybe it's not feasible? 5. Sauce, lacked flavor and tasted like straight canned tomatoes with some basil mixed in. Mini scallops were good, but mixed in with everything else that was subpar, was just a letdown. Oh and the house salad was drenched in red wine vinegar...little too much for my taste. I know this is a local favorite, just not for me I guess!
The food was delicious!!! Everything we ordered was phenomenal!! Garlic knots, calamari, chicken picatta, spaghetti feast was all that we had and each dish was a 10/10! The service what was disappointing, we made a reservation and arrived and were seated with no wait, but we sat at our table for 15 minutes before our server came and took our order. She was kind but there was no acknowledgement or apology for the lack of awareness or whatever may have caused the delay in service. This however will not deter us from visiting again!! The food was amazing but hoping for a better service experience!
When I try a new Italian restaurant, I always judge it by the basics — the meatballs, the sausage, and the red sauce. This place had great reviews and a dish called The Feast: two meatballs, one sausage, and meat sauce over angel hair. Expectations were high. Unfortunately, the food was just okay — bordering on meh. First off, “meat sauce” shouldn’t just be red sauce ladled over ground meat, but that’s exactly what I got (the picture says it all). The meatballs were light but mushy and underseasoned. The sausage was soft and mealy. The Arrabiata that came with the calamari was just the same marinara with a few peppers tossed in, and the “marinara” for the fried mozzarella tasted identical — minus the peppers. The seafood scampi special was also underseasoned and watery on the plate. The bright spot was the service. Cody knew the menu, made great recommendations, and was attentive throughout the meal. I just wish the kitchen lived up to his enthusiasm.
It has been over a decade since our last visit, and we were pleasantly surprised by how much it has changed. The place is now more upscale and beautifully renovated, with a warm, inviting atmosphere. Friday night live music adds a great vibe to this charming, family-owned Italian restaurant. The hand-tossed pizza was amazing, and the wide selection of pastas we tried were all delicious. Our server, Mitch, was excellent—attentive and gave great recommendations that made our evening even better. We’re so glad we came back!
