Amazingly scenic view from the top of the quarry, the old building nearby was fun to explore through a hole in the fence. We completed the hiking trail and finished at the quarry however you can visit the quarry by itself. There is a drop toilet and seating area available. I will definitely be returning.
As a part of my Sperm Donation Australia tour, after a local donation up in the hills area, I did a hike to burn off steam. Really cool area, and lots of cool picturerisque places are worth checking out if in the area.
An awesome spot very close to Perth for a days worth of exploring. There are multiple ways to get to the location. It also has really good views too. Make sure to go with someone who knows the area, can easily get lost I think. ~ @kevinjames.photography
This is a fun area to explore! We did the 6.4km Stathams Quarry trail loop which was lovely! There are many trails in this area tho, so you should definitely use a map if you want to stick to one trail. 🗺 There are great views of the city and Perth in general. There is not so much tree coverage, so don't do this track on a hot sunny day. 🌞 The track crosses over the zig zag road a few times, so you have access to views and bins. There is a sheltered picnic area at the quarry and also a simple toilet. 🚻 Busy place with people abseiling and climbing.
A great adventure day. We drove up the hills via Kalumunda Road, turned left onto Williams Street, accessing the Gooseberry Hill Zig-Zag Scenic Drive. We parked at the second sharpest turn, which is the most northerly zig - or would that be the zag (?) There's plenty of parking space between the road and the green/silver/white gate, where you'll be facing westerly with big wide views across the Perth landscape, taking in the city, the airport and everything to the coast. A visit at night would provide a beautiful vista with the sun setting and the lights coming on. We took a walk around the perimeter. We are very disappointed to see so much graffiti. It is a short trail around to the top of the quarry, facing more northerly with excellent views across Perth. We followed the trail around the top rim of the quarry where there are multiple anchoring points from the many repelling visitors. See the Blue Tree on the northern side. Google Blue Tree Project. We skipped the stairs down into the quarry thinking that we could drive around. There is access into the bottom of the quarry however it is via a locked gate (when I find out why, then I will update) however we could see two vehicles in the quarry. When we drove down the zig-zag onto Ridge Hill Road, there were three vehicles parked at the locked gate preventing anyone else from driving through. Oh well, that's a trip for another weekend.
