Decided to stop by here during our weekend antiquing while visiting our son at Mayport Naval Base. They do have a good-sized parking lot. We were greeted upon entry and thanked for stopping by upon leaving. The place is not as big as what we are used to, but is larger than most antique stores in the area and does have a varying collection of items. Unfortunately, we did not find that had to have item, mostly because the two items we found (A spiral metal plant stand and small metal bike plant stand), were not for sale. They should not have items on the floor that aren't for sale. I understand if you don't want to sell the shelves things are displayed on, but not the antiques themselves. Due to the distance from our home in Ocala, we more than likely won't be returning on our bi-yearly antiquing trips. I do however recommend you stop by and take a look, as our taste may be different than yours.
I had a very disappointing experience at this antique store. Upon entering, I was immediately told to put my small purse in a locker. I found this odd, especially since I noticed several older women inside with large handbags being allowed to browse freely. It felt discriminatory and made me uncomfortable, as it seemed younger women were being singled out. Once inside, I was followed closely by a staff member the entire time, which made the visit feel more like surveillance than shopping. It's hard to enjoy antiques when you feel unwelcome. Additionally, many of the items were displayed precariously — stacked or leaning in ways that made it seem like a slight bump or breeze could cause damage. It didn’t feel safe or well-organized. I love visiting antique shops, but unfortunately, this one left a bad impression. I won’t be returning.
Super cool antique store! And very well priced. The one bone I have to pick with this place is their purse policy. I have no problem putting my bag away if that’s what’s required but there was no posted dimensions of what size could or couldn’t be brought in. Not to mention it felt like they were profiling young people. Everyone in their 20’s were asked to put their bag in a locker but I watched most middle aged women walk through with bags twice the size of mine.
Sugar Bear was incredible! Lovely store that is packed to the brim with any and everything! The staff were so friendly and welcoming and offered to take pictures for their Facebook page which was very sweet. The prices are reasonable and they have sales happening frequently! As most larger stores, they do have a bag rule so if you have a large bag it must be kept in a locker while you’re at the store (which is completely safe). I would recommend bringing a smaller bag so you don’t have to go through the locker process. I will be back!!
Not only a pleasant one but a relaxing shopping experience today at Sugar Bear. Holiday cheer filled the aisle of various booths displaying many antiques and other collectibles throughout the store. The employees are caring, helpful, kind and professional. The aisles are very spacious to walk and the individual sellers booths are neatly organized. The clean and comfy bathrooms are conveniently located in the back of the store. Parking is located on the property. I usually have something in mind when I visit and luckily I found what I was looking for...And more! Holiday sales have begun and what a perfect time to stop in and shop for those unique and wonderful gifts for your loved ones. But don't forget about YOU! I purchased an adorable Angel holding a cardinal, wooden carved elephant and a ladies jacket to donate as a gift. The holiday spirit is amongst us and what a wonderful time of the year to visit Sugar Bear too!
