Well well well, if it isn’t the review I’ve been waiting over a year to post! Now, if you’re an avid checker of TaxKings’ reviews you may think, didn’t this girl previously leave a 5 star review? Why yes, I did indeed - at the behest of the head of the company, Iain Rankin! Please check the first uploaded picture. Allow me explain in further detail. What happened here, was that as a result of Iain, I’d been paying tax under the wrong profession for years (as per his advice), resulting in, of course, an investigation by HMRC (audit). This audit lasted nearly two years. Earlier on in the audit, I had asked Iain for an explanation as to how this might’ve happened, and he denied any wrongdoing on his part. He gave zero further explanation, as is his signature move - in the years I’d been working with them previously, any time I’d asked for explanations to do with my accounts, I was palmed off with jargon & dismissal. I am a disabled young woman - I explained this to them on several occasions - and made it clear that I require a little more help understanding complex matters, especially to do with tax. They responded to this with zero change in their behaviour towards me. The above email you see is Iain’s response to my first review of TaxKings - one star, similar to this one, being honest about my experience of discrimination as a client of TaxKings. As this was during my investigation, Iain’s response was to threaten to foot me with the bill of the insurers by lying to them and saying I was no longer a client of theirs. As you’ll be able to see from picture 2, I made it clear to Iain in 2023 after a particularly rude response from him that I would be ceasing to work with their accountancy firm WHEN THE INVESTIGATION WAS COMPLETE. I was still on their books & paying them when he sent Markel tax this lie. In fact, I still am to this day! (See pictures 3, 4 & 5) For some reason, he forwarded to me the lie he’d sent Markel, as well as all of the correspondence he’d had with the insurance company, which is illegal. (See picture 6) Anyway, his threat of footing me with the bill (which the insurance contract they have in place pays for, which indeed, I was paying for, as a paying client of theirs) forced me to change my review to a 5 star one. I wonder how many of their reviews were also written at gunpoint, metaphorically speaking? Luckily, at this time I had direct contact with Markel tax, who were as confused as I was by Iain’s claim and continued their work with me as I was forced to hold my tongue. This is not a chartered accountancy firm, nor is Iain Rankin a chartered accountant. This is something to keep in mind when working with a firm. (See picture 7) You will rarely be able to contact Iain over the phone, as he demands all of his correspondence is done via email, even if you have a pressing query as a client. This creates a disconnect, and presents an accessibility hurdle - I couldn’t ask for explanations, couldn’t get help when I needed it, and couldn’t form a relationship with my accountants. During the investigation, as I could no longer trust TaxKings to do my returns properly, I had to hire another accountant to do my 2024 return, resulting in me paying two different firms for a job that TaxKings couldn’t do. The time has finally now come where my investigation is complete, and the insurance bill finalised. And so, I am free to talk about my honest experience with TaxKings, as is my right, and supported with evidence as uploaded. I acknowledge my legal right to share my honest experience with this business. This review is not outrageous or inaccurate. It is based in fact and truth. Overall, I would not trust this firm with my business, I had a terrible experience as a client, I and would strongly advise any potential clients to steer clear of this firm. Their advice is either non-existent or inaccurate, and if you dare to question them on their practice, you may be met with threats, intimidation, lies and illegal activity.

I started using this service as I wanted someone to do my taxes, I chose them because they are quite complete, offering some extra services that I didn't need at the time, but I do need now. Best decision ever, all my tax issues in one place with peace of mind
