The Wise Guy in Kansas City is a must try if you’re looking for a clean, elevated Italian dining experience. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere sets the tone with a modern yet cozy feel that works perfectly for date nights, celebrations, or just a solid night out. The food definitely backs it up too. The mozzarella sticks come out hot and crispy with that perfect cheese pull, the salad is fresh and well balanced, and the pasta dishes are rich, flavorful, and clearly made with attention to detail. Everything tasted fresh and well executed, no shortcuts. What really stands out is how consistent everything feels from the service to the presentation. The staff is welcoming, knowledgeable, and keeps the experience smooth without being overbearing. It’s one of those spots where you can tell they take pride in what they’re doing, and it shows in every dish that hits the table. If you’re planning to check it out, I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. This place gets busy, especially during peak dinner hours and weekends, and you don’t want to miss out or be stuck waiting. It’s definitely worth locking in your spot so you can fully enjoy the experience without the hassle. Overall, The Wise Guy delivers on both food and vibe. If you’re in Kansas City and want quality Italian with a polished atmosphere, this is a spot you need to add to your list

Overall, I was very disappointed in this place. It's a cool little spot with a great atmosphere, and that's really about it. You are paying for the postal code when you eat here. First things first, me and my girlfriend ate here today, as of writing this review. I ordered the Ravioli, and she ordered the Classic Italian Sandwich, and we got the garlic knots as an appetizer. All of this would have come out to around $60 before tax and tip when you include drinks. Now typically, I'm not the type of person to complain about price if the quality is overall great. In this case, it really wasn't. First and foremost, the waiter, who was taking orders by memory, got both my order, AND my girlfriend's order wrong. That's strike 1. They let me keep the wrong order, Ravioli with Alfredo sauce, while they made the correct order, Ravioli with Marinara, and boy did I make the right decision because holy crap, whoever thought it was a good idea to offer up CHEESE ravioli with ALFREDO SAUCE needs to check their taste buds. This combination was so salty it was almost painful, strike 2. Once the correct order came out, it was better, but absolutely nothing to write home about. The thing I really didn't understand about this dish, was the big scoop of steamed spinach in the middle of the plate, which just leaked very unappetizing steamed spinach juice into the flavor of the ravioli and marinara sauce. Strike 3. Overall, the best way I could describe this place is its an overpriced bar disguised as an Italian restaurant. I'm honestly ashamed to admit that Olive Garden is a better dining experience then this place when it comes to the food, at least with what we ordered, and that sucks, because as someone who spent 3 years in Italy and experienced just how good Italian food can be, and how easy it is to make very good Italian food, beating Olive Garden should be an easy target for any Italian Restaurant. I really, really hope that this was just a bad night, and that the place is typically a lot better. PS, please have your servers carry a note pad or something. Dudes going around trying to take orders by memory is costing you money, and is an allergy incident just waiting to happen. *We were compensated for the wrong orders and only had to pay for my dish and our drinks and that was without us complaining at all, so they knew they messed up somewhere and owned up to it, which is appreciated.*

I was in town staying at the Home2Suites across from the restaurant. Great restaurant for business traveler after a long day to get great food in a very relaxing atmosphere. I also appreciated the free WiFi connecting which allowed me to work while enjoying a very good pizza.

Being in town for the NAIA Championship, we have had the opportunity to explore local fare. We always like to ask the locals what places they would recommend, and The Wise Guy came up multiple times. Its location just steps away from the Crossroads Street Car Stop make it convenient. The online reservation process was simple, yet we counted ourselves lucky to secure the only remaining reservation for that Sunday evening. Our table was ready upon our arrival, we were greeted warmly, and our server was attentive and friendly. The mozzarella sticks were the best we have ever had! The fig sauce and spicy honey were a unique and delicious sauce for them. They were made in house and had a wonderful flavor. The tavern-style pizza was fabulous! It was crispy and non-greasy, and it did not taste artificial like so many other places do. If time allows, we may try to dine here again while in town, but we will definitely recommend it to others.
