Such a mixed bag, this course. The good: beautiful layout, fun holes, challenging but not too hard. Their grill serves the best burger (grizzly) and a selection of fine draft beers. The challenging: The fairways are rough and the course is very wet, though golf carts are still routinely on it. Pace of play borders on the unreasonable (5 1/2 hours +) even though it doesn’t seem crowded. Lots of potential with a bit more TLC.
Course is beautiful, challenging, and fun to play. Some drainage issues, but nothing crazy for NorCal in January. But this course is the Wild West. We didn’t see a beverage cart, a starter, or a course marshal on a busy Saturday. The group ahead of us played slow (resulting in a >5 hr round) and ignored the cart path only rules, destroying the fairways. If I were the course superintendent, I’d be mad that nobody is protecting my hard work!
Sorry; had no time to elaborate on the 5 stars earlier. This golf course is enchanting; it looks like a golf course designed by Dr. Seuss. It delivers a scent of freshly wet pines. This will clear your lungs. Yah, the land and fairways roll, curve, and bounce, so you face a few real challenges. And the 12th fairway is a model of the Loch Ness Monster's back. Where'd my ball land??? Did I hear a "plunk"? Anyway, you can do it. Sure, you might lose a few golf balls. Who cares. You're on one of the most beautiful courses in the world. Just get out there.
What a great golf experience. Lots of hiking if you’re going to walk. But so beautiful, and not too much sand or water. Triple decker range. First hole is a long uphill par 4. Enjoy!
Tilden is one of the most fun layouts I’ve ever played. Mountain park setting. No houses around the course. Just golf and nature. The course is so interesting. Each hole has a personality and a specific strategy. You have to know where to leave and miss. There are a lot of elevation changes and funky lies. The first two holes are absolutely brutal. After that it gets easier. It’s a municipal course. The greens roll accordingly. It’s better than it used to be. I used to play here daily before the new management took over. The course and green especially are in as good shape as ever. The lone negative will always be that the difficulty of the course does not match the price. Novices come to play for a good rate and spend way too long looking for balls they lose. If you’re not in one of the early groups, rounds can take a very long time. If you play alone at 650am you can finish in less than two hours. Also there’s a lot of cool wildlife. Such a hidden gem of course. It’s hard and not for beginners. Bring lots of balls.
