One of the most authentic Japanese places I've ever had in Texas. They serve quality dishes ranging from sashimi to the katsus. I also enjoyed the calm and simple Japanese decor and atmosphere. The amount of food you get for the price is unbeatable, I highly recommend this place to try out Japanese food for the first time or when you're missing it!
After a trip to Japan, I was longing for food that I ate in Tokyo. When I saw that this restaurant displays their menu using plastic models (just like in Japan), I knew this was going to be legit. Ordered ramen and chicken katsu curry along with pumpkin tempura. Can’t wait to come back and try their sushi and sashimi. This place is truly a hidden gem.
Really glad I discovered this. Perfect for our date night. Tried everything from the sushi to the shoyu ramen and shrimp tempura. Every dish was excellent. Chef Nao makes a ramen broth that's at least 18 hours and one ad said 36 hours! It's the real deal. Will come back.
Takoyaki and kaarage were solid! The curry, when we chose spicy, wasn't spicy at all and just had an overpowering chilli paste(?) taste that over powdered the curry. I would come back to try the mild or medium. Katsu was solid as well Service was a bit slow and it was a weekday evening with empty tables. Wish they had a button to call. They filled waters often in the beginning but just disappeared after food came out. Vibes were good and if Japanese people are eating here, you know it's authentic!
We visited for my birthday and because I love Japanese cuisine. My husband really loves Ramen so that was another good reason to try Tokyo Shokudo. The menu is extensive, the service is gracious, and the ambiance is authentic Tokyo (but were are unsure about the blowup Godzilla climbing on the wall.). I was keen to order the shrimp and vegetable Tempura rice bowl that I saw on the website but it was not on the menu. Our server said the website had an outdated menu. It appears that tempura is available for lunch but not dinner. So I ordered the Tonkatsu. It came with salad, miso soup, and rice. It was a lot of food! My husband ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. Both were very good. I want to return for lunch and a Bento Box. Highly recommend for a casual evening out.
