Our family’s first trip to Quebec City and I would recommend this tour. The bus ride was quick and pleasant. The tour guide spoke bilingual and gave pretty interesting anecdotes about the history of the city. Had to dock one star as our original trip was cancelled without notice. We were waiting for 15 mins after the scheduled time, but once we visited and talked to customer service, they gave us new tickets for the next bus. We had to wait another half an hour, but the tour itself was great.

Everyone recommends the “Hop On - Hop Off” bus tour of Quebec City, and this is it. But what good is “hop on-hop off” if you can’t hop on? Unitours makes a big deal about making sure you reserve in advance, even makes you pick the time of your tour, then directs you to their ticket office. They have one desk at the main tourist information building (at Place D’Armee), where they have just one person servicing a line of 20 or so tourists and taking about 5 minutes per person to do so. Do not make that mistake. Skip the ticket counter. The bus drivers can check you in at any stop given just your reservation number. You’ll get your headphones, the schedule, and a set of inexpensive wired earbuds you can plug in at any seat to hear the narration in any of 10 languages. The narration is decent and informative, though sometimes the driver triggers it late and the thing being described is behind you. The English track had two occasions where it confused “left” and “right”. When the narration ends, the headphones play the same three little tunes in a loop, which gets tiring after the first hour or so. But now the real problem. Nobody hops off. Most people board at Stop 1 and just ride the entire loop and get off where they started. Why not hop off? Because they can see what’s happening- once you leave the bus you’re going to be stranded for hours. Unitours completely oversells the seats, so the buses fill up. You pull up to a stop, the bus is full, and you see the huge queue of people hoping to board - sorry, not this time, wait for the next one in a half hour or so. But that bus will likely be full, too. We quickly realized that “hopping off” would be a huge mistake, and so did everyone else. The bus stayed full for just about the entire ride. The tour is good and gives you a great sense of the different quarters, key attractions, and history. From the upper deck some locations near the river can be challenging if you’re afraid of heights. And the bus can and does get stuck in traffic and can take 20 minutes to go down one small street, especially near the Frontenac and waterfront. Just don’t give a lot of weight to the “hop off” feature.

My husband and I had one day to explore Quebec City upon disembarking from our cruise. We decided to utilize Unitours’ Hop On Hop Off Red Bus system. This provided transportation to and historical commentary about the various sites we visited. It proved to be an efficient and cost effective way to explore Quebec City! A great choice that provided a wonderful end to our vacation. The drivers were very professional and their staff was instrumental at finding and returning my misplaced purse. I will never forget their efficiency and kindness. Highly recommend!

The whole tour was amazing! I did the city and countryside tour and it was a whole day event. I was unsure of what tour I wanted to take so I spoke to the nice lady at the unitour desk at the information tourist center and she was so helpful and gave me insight to each option. I ended up booking the whole day tour and I was so glad I did! Simon was an amazing tour guide, effortlessly switching between French and English so everyone understood him. We met at 10am and for two hours we explored Quebec City and he provided history and personal stories and kept us all entertained. The bus driver easily managed the traffic and he was able to navigate the two stops we had for photo ops. At 12 we went back to the pickup place and then we had 45 mins for lunch before we got back on the bus for the countryside portion of the trip. Simon recommended a place for us to grab a fast bite to eat and the food was delicious. I made it back by 1 and then we went to see the Island of Orleans, Albert Grilles copper art studio, St. Anne basilica and finally the Montmorency Falls. On the Island, Simon provided historical background and context and pointed out different styles of buildings and we stopped at the ice cream and chocolate stop. There was also a walkway where you could walk along the river and see Quebec City and the Falls from the opposite side of the river. The views were beautiful! The copper art studio showed us how the family continued Albert’s legacy and how it is now run by five female family members. The demo was very interesting and there was a gift shop on site. The Basilica was beautiful and Simon took us to all the important sites within. The Falls were the highlight for me because they were amazing! I walked to the falls and I even had time to walk up the staircase to view them from the top. There was no time to go on the cable car but as long as you move fast you can view the falls up close and get wet and then walk up the 487 steps to the top to view it from above. Highly recommend this tour! Great experience!

We really enjoyed our Half-Day Trip to Montmorency Falls and Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré from Quebec City. The double-decker, fully enclosed coach was spotless and comfortable, both the tour guide and the bus driver were friendly, the tour guide's narration during the drives was reasonably clear, and the stops were well timed -- enough time to see the attraction thoroughly, but not too much time that we got bored. The tour was 5 hours long ("half day"). We met the tour bus at 10 Rue Sainte-Anne, which is also where we were dropped off at the end of the tour. Our tour itinerary (it seems to change) was: 1. Chocolaterie de l'Ile d'Orleans (30 minutes) 2. Albert Gilles Copper Art & Museum (30 minutes) 3. Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre (45 minutes) 4. Parc de la Chute-Montmorency (45 minutes), admission included. This is a terrific half-day excursion -- recommended!
