Dr. Russman has been an outstanding vet for our exotics. She has a wonderful bedside manner with them, makes follow up calls about their care during at home treatments, and is always so caring. The new facility on Holly is fabulous. I highly recommend Dr. Russman for exotics.
I am very impressed of the services provided by all the staff , today I took my Penny to be seen for a limping and since arriving the receptionist was very kind and professional and Dr. Katrina Cheney was so understanding, professional, bubbly. positive and friendly. She treated my Penny so gently . Thank you. Anderson family. (Please let Dr. Cheney know about the review).
They wanted nothing to do with my dog when she got sick. They tell you to call if anything changes or gets worse. And she has since passed away. She was an oncology patient. She saw Dr. Copeland. Had one round of chemotherapy. She had lymphoma and I was never given much information on the cancer. I brought her into the ER a week ago and they were like we can’t do anything for her here and handed me a paper to call thrive. I was lucky to have an amazing primary vet who actually took her time to call thrive. This place I felt didn’t care for my dog at all. It felt like she was another number for them. They honestly didn’t care what happened to her. The front end staff is very rude. You can’t ask them a question and everything is an inconvenience. Last week also the techs that I had were very rude. My dog couldn’t walk without help and they all saw me struggle with her. I asked for help multiple times. Some other clients were even saying she needs help over here. I didn’t get help until last minute when I was already struggling. I went to Thrive after and luckily they actually treated my dog well and the veterinarian did what she could to find out what was wrong with her. I could tell the vet team at Thrive actually cared about my dog. My primary vet also cared. This place did not. If you have a emergency I wouldn’t come here. This place has changed. I have also came here in the past. I really felt no one cared about my Waya here.
This review isn't to bash anyone. This is only to tell of our experience as a head's up for yours. Every experience is its own and I’m sure there are customers that have been pleased with this facility. But we’ve not been satisfied with any VCA aside from the location on Wyoming in ABQ, where we had a bully breed foster go in for surgery 2 years ago. This Holly location is the same location that used to be on Montgomery, which prescribed a lifetime of a strong dose of vetmedin for our little princess who was having stomach issues. Only to see her deteriorating quickly while on it. Thank goodness we got a 2nd opinion at Banfield Clinic inside PetSmart within that week, where we found out she only needed a 3-day prescription for her pancreas. Yet, somehow, we ended up having to get tests run for 2 separate little dogs within 3 months. Both were referrals, in which I don’t know why I didn’t think that other clinics could do these same procedures. To sum it up, here were the recent issues: (1) VCA is corporate. So, the prices are astronomical. (2) We were told by the cardiologist, Dr. Bradley Lytle, that our newly rescued shelter foster’s terrible teeth didn’t have anything to do with the condition of her heart imbalances; that rotten teeth and gums didn’t cause heart issues. Obviously, he’s not read the thousands of articles in the medical journey stating the opposite. (3) The liver specialist, Dr. Reis, is a very knowledgeable doctor, but you can never get a hold of him for answers or appointments. He’s either away for weeks at a time, or is only in on Sundays. (4) Being that he’s only available by email most of the time, and having to wait several days for a response, we decided to go with Yucca Veterinary Clinic for a liver biopsy, updated ultrasound, and bloodwork. The doctors were amazing and the prices were a tiny fraction of the cost that VCA charges. (5) This is corporate, so we didn’t feel the kind of relationships involved between the doctors and pets/pet parents that primary one-on-one veterinarians are. The front staff was extremely kind and courteous, and the assistant to the liver doctor, Jacob Salas, was exceptionally nice. Other than that, we won’t be back. Remember: just because you get a referral to a VCA clinic doesn’t mean you have to use them. Just because you need a specialty service doesn’t mean they are the only veterinarians that are offer them. There is money involved in keeping these facilities in the network. There are numerous amazing and much less expensive clinics in ABQ, Santa Fe, and around the state of NM such as Yucca Vet in Belen, Los Lunas Veterinary Clinic, and Petroglyph Veterinary Clinic. Those are just some options that have worked better for us, our pets’ health and safety, and our pocketbooks. Do your research, read reviews, and find the places that align with you. Best of luck and well-wishes for your beloved pets.
I had great care there with Dr Schrempp when my dog, Mimi, was diagnosed with TCC. My dog fortunately lived for another two years prior to her passing and I am so so grateful to have seen the team there. I remember that all my options were thoroughly discussed with me and even sent via email for me to review. I ultimately chose to just put her on NSAIDs and came every three to six months for follow-ups and bloodwork. I’m so extremely happy with her care there and never expected her to live more than 3-6 months after her diagnosis. Although I know it’s different for every pet and I’ve only had experience with oncology, I wouldn’t hesitate to bring any of my pets here. Thank you and cheers!
