I am writing as a long-standing member of Village Gym, having been with you since the gym opened, to express my disappointment regarding the repeated removal of 6.30 & 7am morning non-cardio and relaxation classes from the timetable. I have emailed both the gym manager and general manager twice and had no response regarding this. Classes such as Body Balance and Shapes, particularly those scheduled early in the morning, are often cancelled or removed due to what is described as “ inconsistent attendance.” However, these attendance patterns are entirely predictable given that the participants are frequently working women or women with families who can only attend before work or before school drop-off. Fluctuating attendance should not be used as a measure of failure for these classes. I am especially concerned about the removal of Amy’s Monday 7am Shapes class, which was discontinued despite serving a clear and specific group of members. The decision-making process appears unfair and, in effect, discriminatory, as it disproportionately impacts women who rely on morning access to non-cardio or restorative classes. At present, the early morning timetable is heavily weighted towards cardio and Hyrox-style classes. While these suit some members, they do not meet the needs of those seeking lower-impact, non-cardio, or relaxation-based sessions. Many women use these classes as essential time to care for their physical and mental wellbeing within already demanding schedules. I would strongly urge Village Gym to reconsider its approach and to reinstate a more balanced morning timetable for the 6.30-7 am classes that includes non-cardio options. Doing so would demonstrate a genuine commitment to inclusivity, equality, and meeting the diverse needs of your membership. I hope you will take this feedback seriously and review the current timetable accordingly. I also want to mention how excellent Amy Thomson is as an instructor. Her commitment to her classes is fantastic and she always goes above and beyond. Michelle Rose- excellent always responds to clients feedback and adjusts workouts to suit. Susan Douglas- Amazing instructor who is highly committed and delivers high quality classes.
Staff are nice, equipment is good, female locker rooms are clean… my only and biggest gripe is that absolutely no one showers before the pool. You’ll have people working out for an hour, then go straight in the pool, then they’ll go in the sauna for 20 mins, then back in the pool, then to the steam room, pool, hot tub, pool. It’s a glorified rinse bucket, if you swim after work just know it’s just a concoction of 50+ different people’s sweat. You’d think paying £60 something a month people had more pride and responsibility in the things they use
Convenient location with free parking for up to 4 hours. Starbucks handy with friendly service and a couple tables with outlets to plug devices. Quite a busy facility though with some comfy seats to chat (too low to work on and limited access to outlets). Tried the swimming pool - 20m with a couple lanes. Warm bit you can't use any equipment (locked, and only for classes). There's a steam room, sauna, and jacuzzi. A bit tight when lots of people in it and the jets push you about so not the most comfortable when in close proximity to others ;-) Plenty of showers including enclosed ones bit only two in the corner for changing. Lots of lockers and nice fob system making it easy to use. They can give you towels at a cost and don't recommend you buy the towel service as that's pricey. Generally a nice facility but never got to use the gym or classes. Look modern with new equipment. My only complaints is the monthly cost - at around £78/mo not really value for money considering you can get all of that or similar, maybe minus the pool for less at other places. Second, there was a bad smell like strong b.o. that pervaded the pool area and a different but still off-putting stench in the steam room. So I won't be signing up anytime soon despite the promo offer of no fees until Jan! There are a couple options of peak and off peak usage, the latter slightly cheaper. Hopefully this saves you some time but worth checkout for yourself! Food I didn't get a chance to try but looks like they have various meals including a festive menu and have a space to hold events located past the toilets.
Please do not sign up to this gym!!! I tried to phone up to cancel my membership and they never picked up. I tried several days late to cancel but they again never picked up the phone. When they emailed me - they apparently had no reference that I called. (funny that..) I then received a debt bill from Major Law Solicitors (of £190!!!) as I had no choice but to cancel my bill through my bank. Is this how they treat all their clients? Probably. The gym doesn't even have a bench press. Anyone looking to use equipment? Don't bother, you wont get a space to use it. The staff on the desk couldn't give two rats if you use their facilities or not - you'll probably catch them on the phone (as i did). ABSOLUTELY AVOID THIS GYM AT ALL COSTS.
Pathetic gym ever and so many crazy rules which I never heard anywhere in the world Crazy 1 - you have to give cancellation 90 days in advance. Seriously ? Bs Crazy 2 - u will get only 3 guest pass for your membership Crazy 3 - it’s just wet everywhere in dressing room which is disgusting Crazy 4 - having this expensive membership fee but space is very limited and many equipments are missing - if you charge that much membership for your gym then you should understand that it should have everything for all type of guest. Crazy 5 - Towel is extra 19. Only available pricing option is 65 and 77. Equipments are very limited and the wifi sucks. Pure gym and gym group are have such a big space and have most of the equipment and the price is just 1/3 of this gym. This gym space is such congested and very small and not even 1/2 of pure gym or gym group. I have seen Nuffield also expensive but atleast the space and hygiene is maintained well there for the price they charge. Such a high price for poorly maintained place and facility. I highly recommend people not to waste their time in even checking out this place. This business should never be tolerated.
