This gym used to be good. Now, it’s anything but. They never clean the equipment, when they do, they do so for less than a minute before moving on. The gym is always a mess. Equipment everywhere which is never put back in place even when you go as soon as it opens. Most of the lockers don’t actually lock and the car parking is an actual nightmare. If you come past 17:00 you’ll be driving around looking for a space and risk missing or being late to your class if you’ve booked one. My partner also couldn’t attend the gym anymore due to a knee injury, and even when he provided a doctor’s note, they still tried to charge him. Certainly not worth the price which they increase every year. At the end of 2025 they upped the price by £5 a month yet make zero improvements on the customer experience.
Facilities are fine. It’s the customer service and management of the place that’s the issue. When I joined I wanted to start personal training 1-1 sessions. Was assured a team member would contact me to sort this out. Never happened, despite my trying over and over again for 2-3 months. Once I’d left they were very interested to talk to me (as obviously they weren’t getting my money anymore…) - I ended up cancelling my direct debit and then passing it to debt collector as it was easier than trying to work through things with their staff! Thank god I’m outta there.
Honestly, quite disappointing. The parking is almost always full, no matter the time or day, which makes every visit unnecessarily stressful. The gym itself is small for the amount of members it receives, especially between 5 and 7 pm, when it becomes practically unusable. Even with the recent refurbishments, it still lacks a lot in terms of space. What makes it worse is the parking situation behind the hotel. That’s usually the only place you can leave your car, yet if there’s a private event, they refuse to let you enter or leave through the back door, even though the gym entrance is literally a 10-second walk from there. Instead, you’re forced to walk around the entire hotel, often in the rain, just to reach your car. For a gym this expensive, it’s a ridiculous inconvenience. I didn’t give it 1 star because the staff are genuinely friendly and the equipment is in great condition. Those are the only two real positives. Besides the private-event security staff, who seem to have an extremely important duty that apparently doesn’t allow anyone to walk 10 seconds from one door to the other. I’ll continue going because it’s the closest option and I’m tied in for at least another three months, but I really hope they address the back-door situation and improve the overall experience.
I recently visited Village Gym North Leeds and was really disappointed. The facilities themselves are excellent with brand new equipment, lots of class studios and a lovely pool area. I was previously a member 4 years ago and they have expanded the gym in recent months, however it feels like they’ve also significantly increased membership numbers. I went on a Tuesday evening and the car park was absolutely rammed. Cars were abandoned on the grass and on double yellows. I eventually got a space, but it shouldn’t be that difficult or stressful just to park for the gym. Inside was no better. Not a single treadmill free. The sauna was so overcrowded that someone was standing inside, and there were people outside waiting for a space. It felt chaotic and stressful, not what you expect from a premium-priced gym. I spoke to a member who said parking is a nightmare most evenings. I’ve been a member of numerous gyms over the years and I’ve genuinely never seen a gym, car park, or pool area this crowded, even during January rush periods. The facilities themselves are excellent, but the overcrowding is on another level and something potential members should be aware of.
The gym is absolutely lovely! I was a member before the refurbishment and I can’t believe how much it has improved—it’s such a great change for the better. All the members and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. A special thank you to Eliza in the gym, who was more than happy to help me when I asked for some training advice—she was fantastic! Jeannie was also really lovely to chat with. Overall, it’s a great team here, and I’m really impressed
