Clevelands historischer Markt: architektonischer Charme, globale Aromen, unvergessliche Atmosphäre.

Look at my review history. I don’t have a history of low starring frequently and arbitrarily. PLEASE read: Overall, it’s always a good experience to shop at the West Side Market. For decades I shopped here and had good, normal interactions with the vendors here. Until today. Not 30 minutes ago, my girlfriend and I purchased items from Irene Dever’s stand. There were no issues with the cheese, but the woman who owns the stand served us pierogis with her bare hands (no gloves, no ladles). ***Not only did she serve them this way, she was handling cash immediately before and after handling these pierogis without washing her hands.*** Then, when we asked for replacement pierogis (because we politely pointed out her grunginess), she yelled at my girlfriend. Who knows— the pierogis may be delicious. However, the food sanitation here is suspect, at best. I love the Cleveland Market otherwise.

Recently completed renovations of the produce stalls are fantastic! The place looks better and so does the food on display! The overall plan is to have the section closest to 25th Street function as a food court. A key change is the height of the display counters for the vendors. The food is displayed at waist height, rather than shoulder height. The lighting is much better.

It is not unusual for me to visit a market. In fact, when in Cambodia, I do it almost every day. And yet despite the familiarity with markets, West Side Market in Cleveland took my breath away. The old school architecture, the vaulted ceilings, the antique light fixtures, the wife corridors, the brick exterior, these grabbed me as much as the produce and food on sale in the market. And the produce was wide ranging, indeed. I was pleasantly surprised to see mangosteens, dragon fruits and long and, tropical fruit from my Cambodian home, on sale at the market. There are prepared food items as well as the fresh versions, on sale in the main mezzanine area (the sanctuary of the market cathedral, if you will). Unfortunately, there are not many places to eat inside the market but you might try going upstairs to the overlook of the mezzanine to grab a bench and enjoy noshing some fine food. Street Art Sinay says: Don't miss the amazing, extensive and massive murals on the walls around the parking lot. In my "not exactly an art critic" opinion, some of them are quite evocative. Nowadays, city markets across the US are disappearing but this one does not disappoint. Highly recommended.

Love this OG market setup, similar to those found in Seattle or Vancouver. Great variety of meats, cheeses, breads, produce and other delicacies. Cozy diner in the corner. Imported foods shop in the other corner. Great biergarten right next door. If I lived here I'd be here weekly.

My husband lived in Cleveland when we met and took me here when we were dating. I love this market. The produce is so fresh and all the different foods are so amazingly good. And anything we've bought has always been reasonably priced. We live in Nevada now, but when we come back yo Cleveland to visit, we always stop here. Our favorite counter to visit is Narrin's counter. She makes and sells her own dry spices that we just LOVE! She's a local, so all of it is made in Cleveland.
