Why Pounding Mill Overlook? Well, Pounding Mill is one of the most spectacular overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Located approximately 1 hour south of Asheville at Milepost 413.2, it is located on the east side of the road and has long range views in three directions. On clear days, you can see the Pisgah Inn to the north and the iconic Looking Glass Rock to the south. This part of the Parkway is surrounded by Pisgah National Forest, which provides a buffer of undeveloped forest and an expanse of luscious green that spreads out for miles. It’s a wonderful overlook to visit any time, but can be truly magical at sunrise. The colors build and the lighting changes quickly. High clouds and valley fog magnify the vibrant shades. The beauty of the setting and the sounds of nature awakening only enhance this daily natural phenomenon. Preparation is the key to ensuring your sunrise experience is a positive and memorable one.
