This trail follows a lovely creek through mixed conifer forest to the 70-foot Mystic Falls, over which the Little Firehole River drops from the Madison Plateau. Safety notes: Stay on maintained trails and boardwalks at all times, especially in hydrothermal areas. Trailheads: Walk 0.3 miles to the far side of the Biscuit Basin boardwalk to the trailhead or begin 0.25 miles (0.4 km) south of Biscuit Basin by parking in pullouts on either side of the road and walking 0.5 miles north along the Upper Geyser Basin–Biscuit Basin Trail to the trailhead.

This is a 2.4-mile (3.8-kilometer) there-and-back trail that begins and ends at the same trailhead. Turn around at the falls or climb the switchbacks 500 feet (152 m) to an overlook of the Upper Geyser Basin, then loop back to the main trail. This adds an additional 1.5 miles (2.4 km).
