This was the most disappointing meal I’ve had in a long time, which is something. Let me start by saying that the staff is nice and the atmosphere is wonderful, especially for a date night. Only note about the service is that the servers will try to upcharge you with every other sentence that they speak. It’s such a cute restaurant though, especially at night. But ultimately food is what makes a restaurant and the food fell flat in every aspect. We started with the bread and garlic oil. The bread had a decent crust but the oil tasted like absolutely nothing. I actually dipped my finger in there and tasted it by itself to see if the clear liquid in the saucer was water because it was so tasteless. It wasn’t. The oil that comes out of making a simple garlic confit is more flavorful. We got a few plates after this, the salatim which had 3 multi-colored dips that only had the faintest whisper of flavor. The pita was nice and fluffy though, so that’s a plus. Ultimately the salatim was my favorite out of our meal, though try as I might to detect flavor, it didn’t taste like anything at all. Next we got the scallop medallions. It was a decent scallop in terms of size and texture but ultimately had nothing going for it and the carrot parsnip purée that surrounded it really didn’t help. I actually found myself scraping the puree off because I’d rather have the bland scallop by itself without all of the tasteless fuss around it. Lastly we got the ricotta and beet gnocchi. By this point, my partner and I were not expecting anything in the flavor department. This was also bland but had the faintest hint of ricotta taste so my partner liked this best. But again, it tasted very very bland. I didn’t mind my drink, it definitely wasn’t anything special for $18 each. I got the scarlet odyssey. And my partner didn’t like their drink, the Tokyo sunset at all. At the end of our meal, we were mainly just happy that we didn’t order more when we first sat down cause everything was a letdown. I left more impressed that they made everything taste like nothing because that in itself was a major feat. Highly disappointed with this experience. Which is unfortunate because the environment is beautiful.
This restaurant is very eclectic from the decoration to the furniture and the atmosphere. It reminded me of Berkeley in Northern California. The Chi Achilles were really good but on the spicy side. The Shuka was not good and it appeared that there was too much oregano in the mix as well as cumin. The tomatoes were definitely not fresh and straight out of a can. The coffee (latte) was good.
Loved the vibe, really cute spot. The BEST cocktails I ever had in the us. Highly recommend the Asian pear and Brie pizza, it was just perfect. Amazing ambience for a date or a girls night out. Definitely will be back. Staff is also very nice and friendly.
I definitely expected to be writing a 5 star review. Unfortunately that’s not the case. I will definitely give credit where credit is due. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful! The outdoor garden area was one of the prettiest patios sections I’ve ever dined in. Also the drinks were delicious. Great wine selection, and handcrafted cocktails. My issue is with the service and the food. I had a reservation for 8:30. We didn’t get seated until 9. I asked for a table by one of the many heaters. They said no and gave us blankets. (Lol) I will be blunt and say the food was nothing more than over rated, overpriced- glorified bar food; branded to be high end tapas style dining. Every single dish I ordered minus the charred broccoli completely missed the mark. The lettuce cups were extremely bland- something as simple as lemon juice would’ve made that so much better. Sea bass. Ok but again.. bland. Bacari fries were obviously frozen cheap shoestring fries with the skimpiest amount of sauce and a fried egg thrown on top. They were drier than the Sahara. Bacari burger(what even was that) open faced flavorless and over cooked. I didn’t know ciabatta buns were used for burgers. The Chicken Slider was passable because it was fried chicken on bread… Salmon was cooked great but again.. why so mid?? I really was expecting to be blown away. Nothing stood out. The server was to busy to refill our drinks, the lady I asked for an extra plate scoffed and said “well I was going to the kitchen but I guess now I have to stop and get you a plate”. To which I replied with an awkward silence.. this is just not the place to celebrate someone. This is a place you come to drink and take pretty pictures…
Bacari Silverlake is such a cute spot — we sat on the upstairs patio surrounded by trees, which gives the space a tucked-away, almost secret garden feel. Ambiance is calm and quiet, perfect for an easy weeknight dinner and lingering conversation. Food-wise, we ordered a little of everything, and each dish had its own personality: The Little Gem Salad was crisp and bright, the Octopus had an amazing yuzu kick, the Lamb Hummus was creamy and hearty with warm pillowy soft pita on the side. The Sea Bass was pan-seared and buttery with a tangy balance of charred shishitos and a pop of pomegranate molasses. The Glazed Pork Belly was sticky and rich, and the Stuffed Mushrooms came loaded with melty cheese and delicious pesto. Portions are small, so plan on 2–3 plates per person, which is really the fun of it — more variety, more to taste. Service started strong but slipped halfway through — our server kept passing us to help other tables, and my husband had to wave her down several times. Odd, considering it wasn’t even busy on a Tuesday night. Drinks were a mixed bag too: my husband’s Strawberry Fizz Cocktail was refreshing and fruity, while I’m fairly certain my “Spirit Free” SoCal Staple seemed to come with actual spirits. If I were an alcoholic, let’s just say Bacari might be getting a strongly worded letter from my lawyer (kidding… mostly). Still, Bacari Silverlake is one of those neighborhood gems we keep coming back to — shareable small plates, laid-back vibes, and that dreamy patio make it worth it, even if service can be a little hit-or-miss.
