Very interesting and unique place or artisans can create and learn about art, metals, and jewelry remaking
Great place to learn and enhance your metals and jewelry skills! I’m currently finishing out my one month artist residency and this place is truly a gem that should be everywhere! Everyone that I encountered was friendly, kind, and willing to share their knowledge for what they love to do! The BJC is equipped with everything you need in regard to learning the different processes and techniques in jewelry!
My friend and I were given tickets to an open community workshop during the holiday season-- we had a blast! Molly was our instructor that evening for a mixed group of participants from all over the neighborhood. It was so much fun learning and casually socializing while we all got to take home a neat little enamel piece with glass beads we fused on! Instructions were clear, safety measures laid out plainly, and everything else was left open to creativity. I went to school using stuff like this, so the 1-hour workshop was a fun refresher and an excuse for my friend (newer to jewelry making processes) to have some fun before we went for drinks and a show just around the corner :) The facility has a side entrance from the 10 North Ave address. You enter by the East side of the building, not the side facing North Avenue. The interior of the makers' space houses small gallery space where artists display some of their work, plus the actual working spaces with studio tables, studio spaces, and lots of equipment!
I currently am taking the "Intro to Metals" class. This is a very hands on, and you learn a lot in a small time frame. Everyone who works there is extremely friendly and want you to succeed whether its for fun or making a business out of it. Highly recommended. They will also have flash weekend rates if you want to use the studio, sometimes its free!
I've been attending classes at the BJC now since January 2017. They have amazing Instructors, and full time studio managers, so if you are skilled and have a need to rent studio time there is always someone there willing to help. The little gallery also always has a nice exhibition, and there is even a metal shop where you can buy jewelry. I highly recommend this for people just starting out, and even fir more advanced students.
