Took our puppy here after she ate some plastic. The good was that the service was extremely fast. My dog was taken back immediately they had her vomit and then we were out the door. The actual doctor was very nice and came back to tell us about the procedure. The vet tech was very friendly and informative. However, the front desk ladies are a bit slow to action and weren’t the nicest. This could also be because it was 11pm at night and who wants to be working at 11pm. But overall they were all friendly enough and I can’t stress how fast the service was. I mean I don’t even think we were there for a full 30 minutes before we were out the door and discharged heading home. The front lobby was very clean and they had the office decorated very cute. The exam room we were taken into was dirty. There was dog hair everywhere in clumps and the floor was sticky. As a former tech we were required to clean rooms inbetween each patient but this could be due to the nature of being an emergency vet so not a huge deal.
Very thankful for the staff at Bay Beach. My dog got into a pack of Gum and ingested a very lethal dose of Xylitol. Unleased Vet (also would highly recommend) Care initially took her and and induced vomiting and ran blood work and got her on fluids and then we transfered her to Bay Beach and they were really great from start to finish. Eloise was in their care for 36 hours and I was able to visit as much as I wanted. There was only one person I interacted with during Eloise time there that I wasn't very happy with but Dr. Colson (sorry if this is spelled wrong) was amazing and took great care of my girl. I know they get a lot of bad reviews for pricing and YES vet care is expensive and do I think its crazy that after midnight the intake exam increases (yes I do) but they still took amazing care of my dog and I can tell all of them truly care about the animals they take care of. There were two things I was a tad upset about... 1. They gave her trazadone without asking me first and this was not a medical need but because she was barking (this was towards the end of her care so I don't love that they gave her this to just make their lives easier). 2. I got a lecture when I was checking out from the Vet Tech about xylitol. I understand that legally in the paperwork they have to put that disclaimer but I already feel literally terrible and guilty and could've lost my dog so I really did not need the guilt trip. BUT overall I would take BOTH my dogs back there and trust their lives in their hands (hopefully I never have to). Just remember to give these people grace they're busy, trying their best, and taking good care of your pets but also remember to advocate for your animals too!
I was there last night and the front office staff were really friendly, caring and reassuring, especially Amy! The office is clean and decorated beautifully. The front office even held my baby with them while I went to the grocery store to get a couple things at the doctor recommended. VB is lucky to have this vet in the area.
I believe these guys tried to swindle me!! I went in with a 6-month-old kitten knowing that she was anemic.. she was infested with fleas and having difficulty breathing. When I checked her out I could tell she was underweight, I knew she was having difficulty breathing, saw her pale gums and knew she was anemic. They took her in and made it sound like it was a complete emergency and she needed to have a blood transfusion or she wasn't going to survive the night. And she's severely dehydrated. Came back with a quote of 6 to 8,000.. I rescue so this wasn't my first rodeo. I allowed them to give her fluids, and medication to aid in her appetite. Took her home cooked some liver and tuna feeding her every few hours,monitor her breathing. Took her to my vet today, they dewormed her, they gave her iron and a flea prevention. She's not out of the woods yet she goes back for a checkup in one week. And if you didn't catch from all that she survived the night!! I knew she would it was bad yes, but not as they where trying to lead me to believe. They jump to worst case scenario right off the bat! The only reason I took her there is because VEST was closed. Stay cautious!!
Bay Beach Veterinary Emergency Hospital is located in the Courthouse area in Virginia Beach. It's in the same shopping center as the Harris Teeter there. My visits here were on February 4 and 5, 2025. With this hospital being in a shopping center, there was ample parking available. The hospital is fairly easy to find there. In the afternoon on February 4th, Charlie, who is a male maltipoo and only one year old at the time, he was having a seizure of some kind. We first went to Strawbridge Animal Care which is his primary vet location. After a few minutes, they let us know that the on-call vet was out for lunch, and they gave us the info to come to this animal hospital, which would take about 10 minutes to get there. They were notified ahead of time of us coming. Once we got here, I picked up Charlie from my mom and ran to the door to get inside. It was locked so they had to come and unlock the door. They were very quick about getting the door unlocked and when we told them who it was, they were ready and took him back for an immediate evaluation and testing. I had recently started a Trupanion Pet Insurance policy too, and they were able to handle that electronically. I never thought I'd have to use it, but I am glad I got it now. After some time, one of the veterinary techs came out and gave an update. His bloodwork and such were normal and also let us know what medications they were giving him for the seizures. We were there quite a while, and the veterinarian seeing him came out to let us know the seizures are coming under control, but he would need to be held overnight for observation and continued treatment. We came back the following day and things were looking much better. The last time they had to administer a medication for the seizures was around 1 am that morning. Ultimately, they weren't able to identify what would have caused the seizures in the first place, but at least he was back to his normal self. Overall, the staff were very friendly to us and kept us updated the entire time, even by phone in the evening on that first day. It's crazy when you see just how much it costs too, but at least it was covered by the pet insurance except for vet exam fees and such. I would come back here again if an emergency should arise, even though I hope that never happens again.
