This experience broke our hearts and spirit. We traveled to Quebec with the intent to purchase wedding bands as part of our visit experience. Through our hotel concierge we respectfully made advance appointments with Michael… sharing our plans and desire to have wedding bands with a great destination memory. We arrived on time…and waiting as the guests beforehand finished. I became cautious as I witnessed their questions answered with causal disregard… then I became anxious when our approach was treated with near hostility. Thinking perhaps Mike (as he introduced himself) thought we were off the street tourists… we sought to explain that we were a referral from the hotel… that we had an appointment… that we had been in an exchange with him by email for weeks. “It takes two to three months for a wedding band,” was the only response. Hoping to save what was meant to be a romantic memory… we tried again… looking down at an inventory of many rings. “Should we confirm our sizes and maybe one of us will be successful? Using a ring sizer?” “I don’t have one,” was the only reply. At this point we were not sure what we were experiencing… but it certainly wasn’t what we expected after a 7 hour car ride and the a recommendation from the hotel. Ours is likely not a tale for locals to the ancient city… but a word of caution for others. Regardless of the best of intentions … we experienced the worst case scenario and we hope to spare others.
