Perfect weather, beautiful park, amazing BHY team. It was quite an enjoyable and relaxing class this Sunday at Hyde park. Thanks Zahra, Rachel and the rest of the team. See you again
Another Saturday morning arrived in Perth and I decided to break up my usual routine and do Blooming Happy Yoga’s - BHY - yoga in the park, which runs from October to May. Located in Hyde Park - near the corner of William Street and Glendower Street - it was my first time doing the class. I’m really glad I went along. Hyde Park is amazing to walk through and is such a great location to spend time in. This is another ‘pay as you feel’ class and you can pay cash on the day or otherwise pay by card. I happened to book online and paid via apple pay. There's no need to book though, as there’s plenty of room in the park. It was a big group and some people got there just before we started and had no problem finding a spot. Oh – they provide mats too, but you might want to bring your own in case they run out. There’s something about connecting with nature that enhances yoga. The wind on your body is really cool and refreshing, while the sun provides natural warmth. Add to that the view of the water and bird song and you’ve really got something. Add to that the ducks on the water and people walking their dogs and the atmosphere is really nice. I really enjoyed the class. It ended up being a strong vinyasa style, which I absolutely love. Although I had also done BHY’s rooftop yoga the night before, so my legs had already had a big workout! Zahra is a great instructor. She gives you the option to modify or rest if you need to, which is the sign of a good teacher. There’s no point forcing poses if your body isn’t ready for them. (I know this from experience, as it took me six years to do a full back bend. By the time I did it, it was really enjoyable, because my mind let go and my body did what it was capable of on that day). There was plenty of variety in the class, with chair pose featuring among vinyasa flows, warrior two and triangle pose. We also did dancer’s pose, which I really like as it’s good for your balance and also helps with concentration. We did tree pose a couple of times too, which was a nice fit – seeing as the location is surrounded by trees. 😊 One thing I really liked was towards the end of the class. Zahra gave us the option to step off our mats onto the grass. I was more than happy to do this. There’s something unique about standing on fresh grass in your bare feet. You really connect deeply with nature, which I think is so special. While the class was quite strong (disclaimer – I had also done an hour and half hatha class the night before 😉 so there could have been a carryover from that) it’s also beginner friendly. So, if you ever find yourself free at 9am on a Saturday morning, head on down to Hyde Park for some yoga. It’s a great way to start your weekend.
I joined Yoga in the Park by Blooming Happy Yoga at the end of spring, and it was truly a delighful experience. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, and the setting in Hyde Park was just magical. Over 50 people of all ages and backgrounds came together, creating a warm and welcoming community vibe. The flow was perfect for me, with deep stretches and a well-balanced pace. The instructor was excellent, providing clear instructions and offering variations for each pose, catering to both beginners and those seeking a challenge. Practicing yoga outdoors brought a unique and peaceful energy. The chilly breeze on my skin, birds flying by, and even people pausing to watch added to the experience. The highlight was lying in savasana beneath the blooming jacaranda trees—seeing the vibrant purple flowers against the clear blue sky was nothing short of breathtaking. It was a beautifully simple yet profound moment that I’ll treasure. I can’t wait to come back soon :)
Nice setting and very accessible class. The teacher shows all positions, takes time to explain, guide the breathing and sometimes offer alternatives between beginner and advanced poses. Starting with stretching, slowly increasing in effort, challenging muscles and balance at moments, before slowing down again. You'll meet every size and age here, and it's pay as you feel. So if you're still wondering if yoga is for you this is perfect to try it out, don't hesitate !
Sunday yoga in the park is always the highlight of my week. I love the atmosphere that Zahra creates in the classes: a friendly space to practice yoga and mindfulness, surrounded by a beautiful park. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to try something new, or is already an experienced yogi. By far the best yoga experience I've ever had.
