Stuart Bywater Designs are exceptional craftsmen. Their care and attention to detail in the restoration of a couple of family antiques will ensure the pieces are here for generations to come. I would not go anywhere else. In addition to the restoration of my antique pieces I have had Stuart make a table for me from 100 year old timber I had from an old building I own. The pictures speak for themselves and this piece will be a heritage piece which serves as a fitting tribute to my father. Thank you again Stuart.
Thrilled with the restoration of my grandfather’s hundred year old silky oak recliner which was given to him by his family in 1925. The whole chair was pulled apart to ensure a complete overhaul of a very weathered, flood damaged piece of furniture. The restoration included patching up nail holes and repairing part of a damaged leg, adding a metal support bar at the back so that the seat can be adjusted, replacing the seat base and the original castors were also restored to near-new. The silky oak came up beautifully after at least eight coats of oil were applied by the team at Bywater Designs and even the little plaque at the back was polished! I was so impressed with the care and speed of the restoration. I would highly recommend this company for any timber restoration work. Note: the weatherproof cushions were not part of the restoration.
Just attended the 4-day Surfboard making workshop run by Stuart and his team. Covering all steps from the framing, through to the skin and board shape design. Stuart's knowledge of surfboard design allows your board to be customised to whatever you want including specific rocker, concaves and channels. The course catered to all levels of woodwork experience with Stuart ensuring everyone in the small group had the support and guidance needed throughout all stages. Highly recommended!
Stuart's timber surfboard classes are brilliant. Regardless of your skill level in woodworking, Stuart and his team at Bywater Design will ensure that every student understands the process, the techniques and proper use of all the tools and equipment necessary for an outstanding result. It is this first-hand experience paired with Stuart's kind and clear guidance which makes this workshop all the more enjoyable.
