I used to love this place - the atmosphere was lovely and cozy and was a great place to go and do work. However, they have upped the prices of late and now it feels extortionate. I paid £5 for a small slice of cake and £4 for a cup of tea, then automatically had a 45p “admin charge” added to the bill - which is mandatory because they only allow orders through QR codes. You cannot pay at the till. As others have said you can find much better value for money elsewhere.
This used to be a pleasant, quirky cafe open until late hours that could function as a great regular hangout spot in the centre. That's been erased and now it's just a weird hybrid of its old self and a bar/restaurant. It's far too loud and overstimulating to chill in anymore, and has lost what made it unique. I'll give it points for having nice bathrooms with bidets and actual lids on the seats though ( seriously, every public toilet should have lids! )
although i miss the old chapter one like most reviewers, i did find that, with how quiet it was at 11-1 on a weekday, it was very close to the old atmosphere. there was still music on speakers, but my headphones did fine. the food was 10/10
Amazing place. The atmosphere is amazing. The food is very delicious, and so are the dessert. The coffee is fantastic too. The Spanish latte from here is the best I’ve had in Manchester, both hot and cold!
An absolute gem to coexist with your people in! If you’re wanting to work away, catch up, converse and coexist in a charming setting, this is the place in Manchester to do that. Quirky and cosy, but big enough to find your own corner in it. The coffee was delightful. And, with what’s available to you, it’s very easy to see yourself being here all day and night. Even if it looks like the toilet is judging you for using it, haha A place to be out in public but remain at home, hidden and private. You can go here many different times and have a different experience of it, depending on the mood you are in.
