Really bad experience here. Waited patiently for an hour, and then I asked the guy roughly how long until my test was done (and this was just 15 mins before the shop closed, with a few cars behind me). He aborted my smog test and yelled to "come back another time when I have more time" Agree completely with another one of the reviews below, which I wish I'd read before coming: "Overall, don't recommend this place. Overpriced and you have to walk on your tip toes to not piss this guy off. There are other places that are cheaper and some don't charge for a retest"

Great experience at Clean Air. The entire process was quick, professional, and reasonably priced. I didn’t need an appointment and they were able to take me in right away and had me in and out in less than 20 minutes. The waiting area was clean and comfortable, which is always a plus. Even better, they offer a discount if you mention their online promotion, which made the service even more affordable. Getting a smog check isn’t always the most fun errand, but this place made it painless. I’ll definitely be coming back for my other car. Highly recommended if you're looking for a fast, honest smog check station in the city.
I'm disappointed with this place. I paid extra for a free retest. Unfortunately, it took a long time to clear the error code. When I returned for the retest they scanned the system and said it wasn't ready. They told to come back in 100 miles to check if the error code is cleared. When I returned the code was cleared but they said that my free retest was expired and that I would have to pay an additional $65 for the retest. So I left. The pricing seems arbitrary, there is nothing anywhere at the shop saying that a retest was subject to expiration. If you like paying $165 for a smog test then this is a good place to go. I AM ADDING THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS IN RESPONSE TO THE REPLY FROM CLEAN AIR SMOG CHECK: The vehicle was only fully tested the first time, and the other times the vehicle was tested it was not a full retest but a quick scan with the plug in scanner to see if the error code had cleared. Prior to my last visit I was scanned three additional times and each time I was told to return back after driving the vehicle to have the vehicle rescanned (and there was no mention of any additional charge required). I was told that it can take a long time for error codes to clear especially if the vehicle had been sitting for a while which was the case with this vehicle. After the second scan visit produced the same error code I took the vehicle to Toyota service to clear the code issue. Then in July (after my service visit at Toyota) I returned and the plug in scan tool still showed an error code so I was instructed to drive the vehicle for at least 100 miles, and to come back to Clean Air Smog Check afterwards. I came back to Clean Air Smog Check as instructed. I got the vehicle scanned again and finally the code was cleared. Then I was told that I would have to pay again. The additional fee was not mentioned this until my last visit. Compare this to Speedee Oil change in San Bruno who honored my free retest for another vehicle that could not clear an error code. Speedee Oil Change in San Bruno upheld their promise for a free retest, even after 9 months, with no last minute surprises. Clean Air Smog Check did not provide the free retest that I paid for. There was no prior mention of a 30-day expiration window by the technicians that scanned the vehicle, and neither was there any mention of a 30-day expiration window on the service contract receipt.
I had an amazing experience at Clean Air Smog Check in San Francisco, thanks to Enrique! He was absolutely wonderful, getting me in and out in just a few minutes. While my car was being smog checked, Enrique shared some fascinating stories that made the whole process enjoyable. I passed with flying colors and left with a big smile. I had read the reviews mentioning his delicious snack offerings, and I can happily confirm—they are as good as everyone says! If you’re looking for fast, friendly, and efficient service, Enrique and Clean Air Smog Check are the way to go. Highly recommend!
