It was my first time there, but won't be my last. Its one of the coolest places I've been in a long time. The prices are very, VERY reasonable....that oughta be reason enough to visit Half Price Books !! Maybe I'll see ya' there, they've got a little bit of everything,"NOT" just books. You might find some good Christmas gifts there ya' know the big day is next THURSDAY !!! I hope everyone has a very GOOD, PEACEFUL and SAFE MERRY CHRISTMAS. MC
Lots of new and used books! Found some great gems for a very nice price, this is an excellent place for collectors to check out!
Great selection and store setup. I feel that their organization and floor plan has a much better flow than some other HPB stores I've visited. This last visit, though, we ended up leaving before we were really finished looking at the areas we wanted to. The store wasn't super busy with customers, but you could tell there was an urgency with the employees to move product. One employee was rushing back and forth, from the buying counter to placing a stack of books on the clearance shelves. Myself, my daughter and a couple gentlemen were looking at that section. The employee was rushing in front of us sometimes, behind or around us other times. It was chaotic enough that I didn't feel very comfortable or welcomed. It actually felt like WE were in his way. This made it too hard to leisurely browse,as you never knew where he was going to go. I understand urgency when (re)stocking products at a retail level. My personal experience of getting product onto the shelves in retail businesses was ALWAYS to not be in the customer's way. Whatever you were doing, you got out of the customer's way so that they could shop. We still purchased a bunch of books, but would have definitely bought more if I hadn't felt rushed or like a bother.
We stopped by to sell 2 books that have been in the family for 3 generations. We did our homework first, researching the value of each book using multiple sources, including Abe Books and how much they have previously sold for on eBay just to name a couple. We included taking into account the condition as well as how sought after the books are. One is valued at $115, while the other $90. We know Half Price Books needs to make a profit and thought an offer of $50-75 for both was very reasonable. Yet they insulted us by offering, are you ready for this? $1! Yes, one lousy dollar. I have never been so insulted! It would have been better so simply say that they weren't interested, they already had too many used books to unload, or they already have these in inventory. How insulting to offer a measly buck for 2 books valued at over $200! We will NEVER return.
This is one of my favorite stores! It’s fun to go in and see what new things they have for board games and videos games as their inventory changes almost daily. The kids section is also really good with a great selection of books for all ages and a wonderful clearance section where you can find lots of great books for very cheap. Selling to them is relatively quick! It usually takes 30-45 minutes for them to go through an IKEA bag full stuff but typically I drop it off first and look around so time flies by. The offer is usually on the low side but selling in bulk is a fast way to clear unwanted books and games from your shelf fast.
