HOTA Gallery on the Gold Coast is a stunning modern art space that perfectly blends creativity, architecture, and community. The building itself is impressive, with colourful geometric design and beautiful views from the rooftop Exhibitionist Bar. Inside, the gallery features a mix of Australian and international exhibitions, including Indigenous art, photography, and contemporary installations. The Children’s Gallery is interactive and perfect for families, while the Palette Restaurant and café offer excellent dining options. Parking can get busy on weekends, and some exhibitions have entry fees, but overall, it’s an inspiring and well-curated cultural experience. HOTA is a must-visit for art lovers and anyone looking for a creative escape on the Gold Coast.
We have visited HOTA a number of times since the 2021 opening. This small and interesting gallery is located on a bend on the Nerange River about half a kilometer behind Surfers Paradise. For a regional gallery, I think it punches above its weight, having successfully held many exhibitions and the Bleach festival. In addition there are performance spaces, open event areas, restaurants, bars and a very nice roof top viewing terrace. We have driven to HOTA during the week, and there was on site parking, this might not be true for say over the Christmas break. There is a bus stop located along Bundall Road or for the more energetic, you can walk from the Cavill Avenue G: Tram stop.
Beautiful building and friendly staff. Visited particularly for the children's gallery. Unlike the Brisbane Gallery of Modern Art, kids will have very little to do here. The kid's exhibit is interesting and features a kids play kitchen/ kitchen cabinets with plastic kitchenware; puzzles; colouring sheets and craft equipment; and foam building blocks. 1 hour max, depending on the interests of your kids. Entry is free.
No children’s gallery open when we visited. I had also hoped for more information about the moon installation for my nice and nephew. Beautiful dining area on top floor and nice gift shop.
A small gallery, but every single artwork there is top notch! From Bridget Riley to David Hockney, and some modern works too. The staff were also amazing: welcoming and providing excellent context and info.
