My family and I loooove La Fogata! From family Sunday dinners to special events, La Fogata has become THE go-to restaurant for my family and me. Come the weekends, you can find us here! I have 2 toddlers and as parents know, it’s always a race against the clock. But from the very first visit, the staff have always been so kind and accommodating of taking care of the needs of our babies. My baby’s especially, love rice and beans and tomatoes and the restaurant has never bat an eye on our specific request for their food, and let me say how QUICKLY my toddlers always get fed. I think they understand happy toddlers, happy restaurant lol My husband loves to try new dishes and tried probably 20 different dishes thus far. His fav? “The Pollo Loco”. Second? The ribs. He is 6’3 and about 350lbs from Michigan and LOVES good food. My favorite? The Chispa’s lol do yourself a favor and try one or two lol Ohhh and the queso con picadillo…. Chef’s kiss. Thank you to the restaurant and staff for always making my family and me feel welcome and happy, with full tummies and good times! You will always find us here on the weekends enjoying a laugh and a good meal! Do yourself a fair and stop by!
This OG spot is a must-eat destination for anyone in or visiting San Antonio. My wife and I have been here twice now. Her family would attend the San Antonio Stock Show and stop by this spot as a tradition. A couple eating last night said, "46 years ago we ate here on our first date." The restaurant should be recognized as a historic location. Cheers to the staff, chefs, and team.
The chips and salsa was very good. My poblano was well prepared however it was filled with average tasting ground beef. I will choose a different filling next time. My partner tacos with fajita meat were very good. I like that they deep fried the corn tortilla.
Tell me why this restaurant has the best patio... We went on a Saturday and it was busy. Their waiting area is huge and you can get drinks while you wait at a saloon type window that faces the patio. That makes for an easy transaction instead of trying to fight to get 1 at the bar. We asked to be sat outside and we were able to secure a table after about 20 mins. The waiter was busy so service was slow. I ordered the fajitas and my friend ordered Enchiladas. Their salsa is roasted like rosarios so it was good. The queso dip is good. Nothing fancy. I would give the queso dip an 8/10. Fajita plate for the cost is definitely a 7/10. There’s barely any meat on the plate. The flavor is lacking. Rice and beans were kinda bland. They’re not my favorite fajitas in this city. My friend’s enchiladas were really good. Verde Sauce was tangy and sweet. The enchiladas were a 9/10. La Fogata is a San Antonio staple. Would I go back, Yes! Do I think they can improve on their food, Yes!
La Fogata is a true San Antonio gem! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm, vibrant, and full of character—exactly what you want from a great Mexican restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious—authentic flavors, generous portions, and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor. The service was just as impressive. Friendly, attentive staff made the whole experience even better. Whether you're a local or just visiting, La Fogata delivers on every level: great food, great ambiance, and great service. A five-star experience all the way!
