Great location. Being a monastery, there’s a lot of history and a beautifully curated exhibit on site. The rooms are quite small but very cozy. The shared bathrooms are spacious and regularly cleaned and has fresh towels and other amenities. The breakfast was wonderful. It’s a calm and quiet place.
Let me first say that I am not one to leave negative reviews but feel I owe it to my fellow celiacs to bring attention to this issue. This was my second trip to this establishment. Last one was 8 yrs ago. My biggest disappointment was discovering that the amazing restaurant they had back then has been replaced by a food service that comes short especially for those of us who are gluten intolerant (celiac). Every meal, I had to ask what was gluten free and was met by: are you celiac or just prefer not eating gluten because there may be cross contamination. Most times, the food attendant had to go ask the chef and come back with the very few options and some staff appeared annoyed by my request. One staff even said: you’re lucky tonight, there are 2 hot dishes (meat / fish in sauce) that are gluten free. Please note that when I made my reservation, I did specify that I required gluten free options as they do ask. Let’s just say that to be on the safe side, I ended up with only a very limited menu and was very disappointed that there was no simple carb option as rice or even potatoes but vegetables are in salads that I could not trust to be gluten free. As well, guests seemed to love the gluten free options and there was a considerable wait for the hot meals to be replenished or they just ran out. And yes! Despite my precautions, I got gluttened which is very unpleasant to go through. I do however have to give high praise to reception whom were very kind and professional in my dealings with them. In fact, Felix deserves high praise for his professionalism.
I also stayed at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, but this place captured my heart in a completely different way. It’s quiet, calming, and beautifully connected to nature. Everyone I met was kind, thoughtful, and genuinely welcoming. There’s a special energy here — a sense of peace that makes you slow down and simply breathe. The morning “meditation walk” was a highlight of my stay — such a grounding and refreshing experience. I honestly wish I had stayed longer; it’s the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave. (Cannot leave without mentioning the history and art!)
A monastery with yoga may seen ironic or even sacrilege but here they blend as effortlessly as the ancient beams with modern conveniences. The original facade is wrapped in metal and glass. The landscaping is fittingly restrained as is the decor. The bed is comfortable and linens soft. Very quiet on the ground and throughout the faculty. The shower had ample (very) hot water. The windows have shutters for darkness. Overall were very happy with our stay and recommend it without hesitation.
This might be the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in! The location was fantastic - we arrived by VIA rail and it was an easy walk from the train station, while also being so close to all the major attractions. Despite being so central, the Monastère exudes peace and tranquility. We stayed in a contemporary room, which was small, but beautiful and quiet, with an excellent little reading nook. The bed was so comfortable! The food was incredible - we loved the silent breakfasts included in our stay (This is the first hotel breakfast I’ve had that felt genuinely nourishing), and the lunch we got from the takeout counter once. The staff was always welcoming and friendly and very willing to let me practice my rusty French without automatically switching to English, which I appreciated!
