Let’s start with the positive. The catfish on the Ultimate Seafood Grits was fantastic. Unfortunately, the rest of the seafood was somehow rubbery, and the grits were cold. The cold mozzarella thrown over the top didn’t melt, which is great if you’re topping a salad. I didn’t mind waiting in line to order. What was frustrating was the 25 minutes it took to get our food. We had to clear our own table. We had to ask for water 3 times. It took 3 minutes to get silverware after our food was served. And in that time, the cheese still hadn’t melted. Again, the catfish was great — perfectly seasoned. Compliments to the chef on that.
I had high expectations for this place due to reviews. However, the service and atmosphere didn't really meet the expectations. The line moves slow. The lady who's taking the order also makes orange juice. She also works slowly. The atmosphere is ok but nothing special. The food however was very good. We ordered crawfish omelet and fish & grits. Both were very good.
The wait was about an hour, which we anticipated. What wasn’t great was finding out that the star of the show—the banana-stuffed French toast—was out of commission because they were out of bananas. We learned this at the order counter. Our final order was a seafood grits with fried catfish (a fantastic piece that really shines), crawfish, shrimp, grits, and grated Parmesan cheese, which was an interesting combination that surprisingly worked. The other order was a breakfast poboy with andouille sausage on French bread (though it was a bit dry), scrambled eggs, and breakfast potatoes. The staff were very welcoming, especially Sheryll, who was accommodating and friendly. To sum up, make sure to ask ahead of time to make sure the items you’re hoping to get are available.
We tried Lux Cafe and everything was so good. The catfish and seafood grits were the star…the fish was fried to absolute perfection, crispy on the outside and full of flavor. The grits were soo creamy ( I could have had the all by its self!!) The crawfish omelette was rich, topped with their special sauce, and loaded with crawfish, and the potatoes on the side were seasoned just right. The honey chicken biscuit was ok. The biscuit was tasty, the chicken was perfectly fried, and the honey drizzle pulled it all together. Great food, great portions, and we left happy and full!
I’ve been to New Orleans so many times and never knew this place existed. We stayed at the Courtyard By Marriott on St. Charles. It was a 7 min walk from the hotel. We had the hot sausage omelette and the hot honey chicken biscuit. When I tell you delicious and tasteful. The biscuit was so moist and the chicken so tender and flavorful. The orange juice was freshly made by the glass and even the water was fresh and crisp. Recommend 10/10
