這是一次美妙的感官與文化體驗 A truly wonderful sensory and cultural experience. A truly wonderful sensory and cultural experience. I started my visit at the outdoor sculpture garden. Walking among the artworks while breathing in the refreshing scent of the trees was a beautiful sensory highlight. It’s the perfect way to begin a visit. The highlight was the free guided tour in the afternoon. My guide, Pam, was exceptional. She introduced me to several key masterpieces in the collection and gave me a deep dive into the Indigenous Australian art projects. I realized that I had only been appreciating these works on a surface level before; Pam helped me connect with the true core and spirit of the art. Top Tip: I highly recommend joining their free morning or afternoon tours—it completely changes how you see the gallery. A must-visit in Canberra!
Came from Melbourne to see the Indigenous Art Triennial After the Rain exhibition. Was absolutely brilliant. Couldn't believe entry to this gallery was completely free. Parking beneath building is $4/hr, which is a bargain coming from Melbourne! The building itself is a work of art, and every corner we turned led to another section with more art. We are very lucky to have access to the well known pieces of art being exhibited in this gallery. It took us over three hours to see almost everything. There is a small cafe in the building and the gift shop has a great range of books and wares. Do yourself a favour and visit if you're in Canberra!
The National Gallery of Australia is a treasure, not just for Canberra, but for the entire country. What makes it truly unique is the incredible depth of its resources and the thoughtful curation across its diverse galleries. From the stunning Indigenous art collections to the breathtaking sculpture garden, every space offers a new perspective. My visit was perfectly timed to experience the ‘After the Rain’ exhibition, and it was a highlight. The presentation was immersive and powerful, showcasing art in a way that was both contemplative and profoundly moving. It’s this caliber of special exhibition, paired with the unparalleled permanent collection, that sets the NGA apart.
The National Gallery of Australia is absolutely breathtaking. The sculptures and paintings on display are among the most valuable and impressive I’ve seen in any Australian gallery. The quality and scale of the collections are outstanding, and I honestly wish I had more than two hours to explore everything. The gallery was not crowded at all, making it easy to enjoy the artworks at a relaxed pace. Most sections are free of charge, which is incredible given the significance of the collections. It’s open on public holidays and only closes on 25 December, which makes it very accessible. There is a lovely café on-site, and walking around the sculpture garden is a highlight in itself. The architecture of the building is a masterpiece—worth admiring even without stepping inside. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful, adding to the overall experience. A beautiful environment and an exceptional cultural space. Honestly, this is how all of Australia should feel. Highly recommended for locals and visitors alike.
Went there on NYE and was stunned by the beauty of the place. It was multi storey filled with different exhibitions and themes ranging from paintings to sculptures. And how perfectly the place is maintained. Kudos to the volunteers and security people whose hardwork ensures that the items in the gallery are preserved and enjoyed by visitors. Perfect place to spend hours with your family or friends. It also had a massive gift shop.
