Got hit with a fee through membership. My first month was pretty egregious and expensive. Otherwise, most of the staff is pretty nice and the facility is maintained very well. It would be nice if the hours were a little later on the weekend, but it’s the YMCA. I sure can tell you that if I have another fee, I’ll definitely wanna Discontinue my membership. I just don’t understand why the facility gives the third-party vendor that kind of financial recourse against its members.
I love the people, filled with positivity energy and a will to do good for those around them. I also love how clean the staff keeps everything and the attentiveness shown by the lifeguards. I frequent all of the Y’s (with the exception of Skyline since they don’t have aquatics), and everyone I encounter appears to care about the work they do and the people around them. Thank you so much for offering not just a place for me to center myself, but for beautiful pools and hottubs and for the amazing team of people that keep the Y going.
The indoor pool is better for swimming than the Jorgensen Y having more deep swimming area. Sometimes both the hot tub and pool seem to full for the filters which might cause some of the breakage. The sauna is better the other Ys in the area. It's workout area is clean, and has the major equipment you need. I mostly bike there and at home, or swim. I don't see how you could get red light the same way other gyms have it, and I have my own. A lot of seniors, and people recovering from things might find a red light booth useful, but goggles might be to tricky. All the many swim lessons for kids sometimes slip my mind, and that's not a right or wrong. I just have to do a certain amount aqua stretches, and tub time for my fibro, and old army pains each day to be able to get up in the morning. That's sensitive for personal reasons. The hot tub also seems a little rich on chemicals sometimes, but might be tricky to balance. A concession unit might be hard, but people do stay hours sometimes. Salads, and sandwiches, or something else might make it easier for gym junkies to eat meals. Overall, this place is better than the vast majority of gym's you will find in Fort Wayne.
The staff are awesome. But the policy regarding the lockers is a nightmare. I have reported grown men walking around, standing around full blown naked in the youth locker room. No response, no action. And yes, I identified the member to staff. I had my boys who were 9/10 at the time. To this date, this is the only time I'm aware they've seen another person's genitals. Everything else is great, but this part certainly was not a good look.
Several of the Y staff are amazing! My daughter loves Amy. She goes out of her way to read to my daughter which she loves. Riley, Charlie, and several of the other crew do a wonderful job as well. I never have to worry about my 6 year old because I know she’s taken care of and is enjoying playing while I’m exercising. I would recommend child watch to anyone!
