I was visiting from out of town and attended one of their classes. Everyone is so friendly, welcoming and the teaching was absolutely amazing. A great meditation center to check out if you are in the area or happened to be in town
Great place to learn practice and share with others. Teachings include mindfulness skills we can use from day one, as well as relating to the nature of mind and the phenomenal world.
This is a very open and inspiring community where people of all types gather to study and practice meditation and a type of very secular grounded Buddhism called Shambhala. Highly recommend.
Shambhala center has now become my home away from home. I stumbled upon this gem of a place through google search for “meditation places near me”, and I am so thankful. The strength of this place is multifold- the teachings (dharma) and the community (sangha). I go there at least once a week and am so fortunate that Birmingham has such a “secular” place for practicing age old and scientifically proven mindfulness techniques. Especially pertinent in the current era of high stress and burnout. Highly recommend people to stop by and find out for themselves! There is no fees required.
I attended a open group meditation for my first time & it was quite empowering. The people hosting this event made me feel quite welcome. I am looking forward to attending a monthly orientation on the various programs offered.
