South Hills Landscaping & Excavating just finished up a retaining wall and steps put in at the front of our house, and once again, Darren and his team did an amazing job! We’re repeat customers for a reason—a few years ago , they installed a patio and retaining wall in our backyard, and it still looks fantastic! This time around, the front wall project turned out just as great. The Redi-Rock blocks give everything a solid, clean, and really polished look. The new steps are super sturdy and make the whole entrance to the house feel upgraded. The crew was professional, on time, and respectful of the property, just like last time. It’s always a smooth experience working with Darren—he knows his stuff, communicates clearly, and delivers quality work. Highly recommend if you're looking for a reliable team that takes pride in what they do! Thanks again!!
Extremely happy with the work Darren and team completed! South Hills Landscaping removed an old wood fence that was in need of repair, added some landscaping boulders, removed some old bushes, and removed a rusty chain link fence. It looks like a brand new yard! They were prompt, friendly, and the price was great! Would highly recommend them!
We hired Darren and his team from south hills landscaping & excavating for a very large landscaping project. To summarize what we had requested was a new Cedar fence, remove and replace our rear patio and rear retaining walls, install drainage systems that were appropriate, remove and replace our front of house retaining walls walkways and driveways. Remove a huge tree stump. Run additional conduit for outdoor electrical to be installed by an electrician at a later date. Remove all old vegetation, which was substantial. We had multiple estimates and we decided to move forward with him and his team due to our early interactions with Darren. I found him to be direct and honest. I also was happy that he told me that when his team arrived on site that this would be their only focus and he would be personally there throughout the entire project and it was completed. Prior to beginning our project my wife had a serious injury that made mobility a big challenge and we debated delaying the project, but after discussing my concerns with Darren he assured me that everything would be alright. We began our project on the agreed upon start date and the total project was completed nearly a week earlier than we had anticipated. Wow! Darren and his team were awesome to work with. They assisted us when we needed creating a pathway to get a walker or knee scooter out of our house and performed the project in a sequence that would create as little impact to entering and leaving the property. The crew was super professional and friendly to me and my family. My child loved watching the activity and interacting with these friendly folks. The thing that I really appreciated was the team’s willingness to discuss different aspects of the project. In my eyes, it was very technical and wanted to know what was going on and if I had questions, these guys were more than happy to let me know, the how and why of what they were doing. The attention to detail was also incredible. Many small things really went the distance such as how the fence sloped from the 6 ft height to the 4 ft., How the wiring for the downlighting was concealed on the fence. At the end of everyday the site was cleaned of dust and debris and well Organized. Not a single day over the course of 3.5 weeks did these guys not show up, they worked through some pretty crumby weather that I would have thought for certain they would have called it quits, and I wouldn’t have blamed them. Additionally my project required a substantial amount of permits and inspections from the local municipality, I was very happy that Darren was able to effectively work with the local authorities to not only obtain the permits in a timely manner but also was well versed in what was required for each step of the project to pass the inspections. At the time of me writing this review, which is a month after the project has been completed, I have not found anything that has disappointed me. I’d hire these guys again without a doubt. I think that each member of the crew is a true professional, and I can honestly say that I’d consider them all a friend of my family. Well done!
I HIGHLY recommend South Hills Landscaping & Excavating! Darren Davis, owner. I recently made the decision to make a huge investment in my home by replacing my driveway and corresponding retaining walls. One wall was leaning and the driveway was cracked and had grass growing down the middle. (see before pic). I had seen SHL working in my neighborhood over the years and noted their good work. So when it was time for me to get estimates, I made sure I reached out to them. Although, the other contractors I received estimates from were competent, Darren was the only one that suggested the correct wall material to use for the job. Permitting can be tricky. I could tell immediately he knew what he was doing and had the talent and experience to do the job right. He was patient and took the time to answer all of my questions and concerns. And I had a lot! Because of the elevation of my driveway, I have a sump pump in my garage to negate the extra rain water that flows down. Darren and his team went above and beyond to make sure the pump was working and all connections from the driveway to the pump were updated. They also updated the drainage line behind the retaining wall from my gutter to the street to make sure it was working and free of debris. Construction started and I wasn't disappointed. I was worried about the inconvenience to my neighbors and the disruption construction would cause, but Darren and his team were FANTASTIC! Very professional. They were mindful of where they parked their equipment and cleaned the job site of debris daily. I am thrilled with the results and I am so glad I chose South Hills Landscaping to do the job. Darren and his team do excellent work.
