This is also a great place to buy plants. Very knowledgeable and helpful just like the Stowe Nursery which I think they are good friends as they recommend them to us if they don’t have the plant we are looking for. 🥰
I visited Southern Roots for the first time today. I am a plant lover so I was browsing and looking for certain plants. I was there for about 5-6 mins and none of the employees greeted me or asked me if I needed any help even though they seen me walking around. So I left. I will take my business and drive a little further to the nursery I usually go to. The employees there are much friendlier and more welcoming

As someone who’s traveled across the country, I can confidently say this nursery stands alone with its breathtaking, one-of-a-kind selection of plants and decor. Every visit feels like stepping into a serene oasis, curated with love and expertise. Thomas is a true standout—his infectious energy and deep knowledge make every interaction a joy, even when he’s juggling a busy day. He has an incredible knack for making you feel right at home amidst the tranquil beauty of Southern Roots. This place is a must-visit for anyone seeking unique, soulful pieces and a warm, welcoming vibe. I find myself daydreaming about it no matter where I am!
This is my favorite nursery in the Charlotte area. I also shop at Pikes and Lowes for smaller/younger/more common stuff, but I normally stop by Southern Roots once every 2-3 weeks. They have the best variety and more rare species of trees and shrubs in the area. I always find something new when I go. The owner hand selects his inventory from suppliers. The products here always have good structure, look very healthy, and have already been pruned properly (or bonsai'd). They keep up with the maintenance of their products here, too. My favorite part is that if the owner sees you picking something out, especially if more rare or on the pricier side, he stops to talk to you and make sure you know where and how to plant them. He's not going to let you plant something in sun vs shade or in poor drainage areas, etc if the plant won't easily survive in those conditions. When people come to my house, I always ask them what their favorite species is, and most people pick something different every time, but the thing that they have in common is they always pick something I bought from Southern Roots. Don't mean to be harsh, but anyone who has complained about this place simply doesn't know what they're doing or what they're looking at. Favorite Tree: Mikawa Yatsubusa Maple (just left of the white path)
I cannot say enough about the selection! This is not a regular nursery. The property is absolutely beautiful! Any plant/ tree you can imagine is there. Exotics and domestics. And the store inside is large and filled with treasures and trinkets. YOU HAVE TO GO! Thomas and all the other staff is awesome.
