Excellent tour by Duncan. Great pace, level of info, and energy. Surprised by how insightful and engaging it was - suitable for lifelong Bristol residents and visiting tourists. Good value for money and brilliant location.
Took the tour on the 17th and thoroughly enjoyed it. Duncan’s knowledge of Bristol’s wartime experience is unparalleled, and made for a fantastic tour of the underground parts of the corn exchange, with highlights including wartime graffiti and exclusive views of the city from the upper floors of the building. Would recommend to inquisitive friends and uniformed alike!
Loved it! Guide was funny and very informed, creating a most enjoyanle experience. He gave an overview of Bristol's history, including some architectural details that reflect the eras. We went into the air raid shelter under the Corn Exchange and it was an interesting yet sobering experience. The tour takes about two hours. Walking is minimal, but lots of standing etc. You won't be disappointed
When visiting Bristol, I'd highly recommend visiting the air raid shelter under St Nicholas Market. In our group there were teenagers, people in their 20s and 30s, and older people too. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. My friend and I visited last weekend and it was SO engaging and SO interesting. Our guide obviously loves Bristol, its history, its people. His knowledge and enthusiasm was second to none. He was a brilliant storyteller too. We really enjoyed this informative talk. He said that the walk was quite new as, only a few months ago, the shelter was used as a storage space for the council! How awful that all of this history was hidden away. I'm so glad it's available to be viewed and its story told now. Our guide was dedicated to the cause..it was one of the hottest weekends this year and he was still wearing his full authentic WW2 dress, including hard hat! The guide is still currently finding out more details about the history of the air raid shelter and building on the story. I'd love to come back in the future to hear more about this historic place. There are apparently currently 2 tours a day, the 1st focusing more on the history of St Nicholas Market and the 2nd (the one we did) focusing more on the air raid shelter itself.
Possibly the best tour we have ever been on. Duncan was an informative, funny and dedicated tour guide and it was obvious he was very passionate about the air raid shelter and developing the tour further. It was great to hear about the music history of St Nicholas market and to go into an actual air raid shelter was amazing. The tour lasts roughly 2 hours and is excellent value at £14 each. Would highly recommend this tour to people of all ages and can't wait to return with my husband as know he will love it too. Thank you for a very interesting tour Duncan. We all loved it!
