This is a historical fort that is free and self-guided, with an iconic fort area that is very well preserved and feels much like a museum. Even though I am not personally connected to the history, I still really enjoyed the site and the historical information presented throughout the grounds. There is a shop on site that functions as a gift shop with souvenirs and books, and the surrounding area has lots of different shops to explore. Riverwalk is also nearby from this place.
Paid $22 for parking, then while walking back we found a smaller lot for $7ish. This place was great, you’ve got to go. We did all the free stuff and still had a great time. Not too bad of a wait time, though some of the other tourists had no self awareness, legit had to step around a lady to get out of the restroom stall haha. Very clean restrooms btw!
This is a great place full of history its been on my bucket list for a long time everything free except the museum and peewees bike which wasn't interesting to me but it might be to you. Lots of cool things to see lots of history Nice gift shop with all the alamo goodies. Greay stop and worthy of your time.thanks for the memories and hope to see yall again real soon,,,keep up all the great work. Happy newyears!!@@!! Thanks a whole lot!
I've been visiting the Alamo over the course of 30 years and it has continually grown into a better experience each time. The most recent addition to the grounds is an exhibit center that features artifacts from the era and has some very intriguing pieces including a rifle owned by Davy Crockett. Phil Collins acquired many of these artifacts and there's quite a few to check out- each with their own personal story. The grounds are absolutely breathtaking and beautiful- especially at Christmas time. I get a strong sense of emotions on these hallowed grounds. It's a special place that every American and Texan should visit. I love the statues especially. There's something peaceful about these grounds too and Alamo Square in general is such a wonderful place to visit with several notable establishments around like the Emily Morgan Hotel, the Menger Hotel and Bar as well as Crockett Tavern/Hotel. I would recommend watching the two Alamo movies before visiting- especially for those unfamiliar with the story and the forts origins. The 2004 film is more historically accurate and appeals more to the younger crowd. My 16 year old fell in love with Billy Bob's portrayal of Davy Crockett and she really loved visiting the Alamo because of it. Admission is very reasonable and it's for a good cause. The Alamo will always have a piece of my heart as it has a special place in history. Remember the Alamo!
Such a beautiful experience. The Alamo wasn't too crowded, we went on a Sunday. The kids enjoyed it (ages 5-12). Parking was $34 around the Alamo for 2hrs. Great photo opportunities! We paid $14 per adult and $10 per child to do the self guided tour + the museum. They had an audio tour and a guided tour for more money.
