I wanted to share an exchange I had with the owners of this shop and brand, after they had reposted content on FB that used terminology that is both derogatory and inappropriate. It was in reference to the Indigenous peoples of this country. I chose to call them out and challenge their decision but instead of taking ownership of the mistake, they chose to deflect by feeding me some nonsense about my own dogmatic views. And to be clear, the ‘important information’ that the owner refers to in her response to me was about clothing that they were selling. They then chose to block me from being able to continue the conversation. I’m just hopeful they have at least pulled down the content. “….Hello, we are not sure if you are aware, but we did not create that video. We reposted it because we thought the information was relevant and important. As white people, we think it's really important to make space for Black, indigenous, People of colour to name themselves in any way they think is appropriate. Inflexible dogmatic views about what is the "correct term" for a group of people is, is highly problematic. We suggest you shift focus away from what we should know and explore all the beautiful ways we can be allies to disenfranchised and marginalized communities.”
Lovely time at the pop-up near the Jazz Festival! All of the vendors were delightful and the energy was very inviting :)
I love this pop up in ottawa! Most of the vendors are super cool and personable and professional! They have really awesome vintage things new and used, everything from clothes, to dishes, to jewelry and gemstones, accessories and candles to vintage buttons and electronics lol - you name it - they got it - and most of them will remember you as a second time customer - they were also super great with my baby who was running around and playing with them. Keep it up everyone! We love you! Peace and love to you all! :)
I’ve been participating at Vintage Pop-Up 613 both as vendor and client and it’s my favourite market in town! The events are always well attended, there is some items for all taste + there’s music with a DJ and immaculate vibes.
This event is a blast! The venues/ locations are always fantastic and the vendors are diverse and well curated vintage sellers. The music is always amazing as well. Definitely one of the best sustainable vintage shopping experiences in Ottawa!
