I really appreciate they don't market themselves as "LUXURY" or "RESORT." They provide kennel boarding at a sustainable price and that's all I need. My cat did gain a pound and a half but I'd rather that than lose weight. The staff seem happy and passionate and it's VERY affordable. Would come back again!
I have only used this place once, but my dogs must have had a great time. They were excited to see me and in a great mood. They are their dinner and then went right to bed seemingly exhausted from all the play time I assume. Everyone that I interacted with was very friendly and made me feel comfortable leaving them there. Definitely will try them again.
Great place to board. I even had Lucy groomed while was there. Dogs behind the counter - dog people work here. Super cool staff. Very professional and easy to work with. After being denied an evaluation by K9 Resorts (had availability) and Camp Bow Wow (had availability) because we walked in without an appointment. I explained to both places that I had not been home in 4 weeks because of the government shut down and made a last minute decision to fly home for the weekend- I was still denied. I drove over to Academy and explained the situation and they went to work creating an account with my information and then checking my shot records were current. Academy is the only place e in ABQ that I will board my dog.
The care they show all three of my dogs when I bring them in for grooming is excellent. They not only note any skin or hair issues, they have also noted any physiological issues that they note. This is so helpful in maintaining their care. I appreciate both of the groomers that are employed there, but a special thanks to Stephanie who always pays attention to small details that we might request. 10 Stars
If I could give this place 100+ stars, I would. I mean that. I rescued a dog off of the streets in January – his name is Romeo. It took me almost an entire year to build his trust, and after I finally caught him, he decided I was the only person that would be able to touch him, play with him, or feed him. He also decided that he hated other animals. Romeo’s abuse history is extensive – I know this because I witnessed it. I have been scared to board him due to his behavior towards other humans and animals, as well as the fear that his behavior may cause him to be mistreated. I suddenly moved to a new house, and due to his extreme attachment towards me, it made more sense to have him boarded while I was in the process of moving then it did for me to allow him to be attached at my hip the entire time. I researched boarding facilities everywhere within a 30 mile radius – This facility had lower stars than others, but upon reviewing previous reviews, it appeared that ever since ownership changed a couple of years ago, people have been entirely happy with their experience boarding there. I called them and set something up, and was incredibly pleased with the person I spoke with – I can’t remember who it was, but he was very kind. He assured me that Romeo would be well taken care of, and that all the staff were well equipped to deal with aggressive dogs. when I dropped him off, Romeo was terrified. He had only ever been with me since I rescued him. It broke my heart, leaving him there, but the person who checked Romeo and assured me everything would be OK, and told me I could call as many times as I wanted to for updates about his behavior. I even opted to include a 45 minute outdoor session per day, despite knowing that Romeo has never previously let anyone but me put a leash on him, I told them to try their best, and if he seemed like he couldn’t handle it, to not take him out. my intention was to leave him at the facility for less than 24 hours. I ended up extending his time for three more days. He thrived! When I picked him up, he had become new pals with a staff member named Caleb. Romeo‘s abuse history has included only men, and he had struggled most with them in general. Clearly, Caleb knows how to handle a dog like Romeo. Romeo was sitting for him, taking treats out of his hand, wagging his tail. I could cry! I am so incredibly pleased to have had this experience. Romeo will be attending boarding more frequently to help him with socialization and learning to be comfortable in new experiences. I feel confident that this facility can handle him, give him beyond adequate care and keep him comfortable and safe while he’s with them. I’m typically very Critical when reviewing different organizations and agencies, because I want people who read the reviews to have the full fax. I have nothing negative to say about this facility. You can trust them. Your dog will love them, and they will love your dog, even with all of the quirks. PS: I am a school, social worker, and as you probably know, social workers do not make much money. This experience was entirely affordable, and I can afford to do it often within a year to keep him socialized and experiencing new things.
