Highly recommend for ESS (Earthquake Soft Story)! Altamira just finished an ESS seismic retrofit at our house in Oakland and my wife and I are very happy. Oscar was a great communicator and educator on the project and navigating the CEA ESS program related plans and permits, and ensured the project was competitively priced and well managed. Daniel and his crew performed the work, and were very professional, courteous, and tidy. They completed the work on time and within budget, and completed almost all of the CEA ESS application for us. Altamira did some foundation repairs on our 100 year old home and did an excellent job! They gave us a fair assessment of our foundation and a good price for the repairs. Arrived on time and finished the work when they said they would. They were very communicative throughout the whole process and always kept us in the loop as the project progressed. They also suggested future work to water proof our foundation and were honest enough to tell us how we could get that work done for less. We initially reached out to Altamira Construction after receiving an earthquake brace & bolt grant and Oscar came out to do our inspection and estimate. He was incredibly friendly and helpful in taking a look at our foundation and offering advice on the best approach, but due to the bad timing of the grant program, they weren't able to accommodate us (we actually weren't able to find a contractor in the entire bay area that would have been able to schedule us in time to meet the deadline imposed for the grant). In addition to the brace & bolt, we also needed to replace a section of foundation that a previous owner had compromised by digging out areas of the basement crawl space. After receiving several estimates from other companies for the foundation work alone that were RIDICULOUS, we decided to reach back out to Altamira Construction and get an estimate from them. The bid from Altamira was extremely fair and pretty much right in line with what our expectations were before we began the whole process, and since Oscar was consistently more straight forward and helpful than anyone from the other companies, we decided that they'd be our best bet to replace both the section of foundation and do the earthquake retrofit. Daniel was the lead on our project and he and the rest of his team were awesome. He always took the time to update us on progress, letting us know what to expect while communicating next steps, explaining options, etc.. He was also great about making sure things were tidied up as much as possible at the end of each day. We ended up having to travel for a week in the middle of the project and I felt more than comfortable with Daniel continuing to work while we were away. He was even nice enough to send a couple pics via text to update us on the progress. All-in-all, the project took about a month, with a week or so of that time spent waiting for inspections from the city. To contrast, our neighbor also started their foundation work with a prominent competitor at the same time as us and they're still working. The only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is that we ended up having to wait a lot longer than initially planned before they were able to start the work - about 6-7 months instead of the 2-3 we were expecting. Aside from that, everything went smoothly. The new foundation looks great, as does the replaced stucco, and we're very happy with the overall quality of the work. I'd definitely recommend working with Oscar and Daniel at Altamira for any foundation work you need done.
