I actually really like this place but I had an instructor named “E” who was terrible. He turned every little thing into a quiz and when I asked him at the end to demonstrate had to make the most difficult climb who told me he wouldn’t because, “I don’t like to showboat, and it’s good to add a little bit of mystery to everything.” Like what??? What kind of instructor refuses to demonstrate something?
First time ever going to BPS was a Tuesday late afternoon - early evening. Staff were super chill and the gym space is very open and organized. Gym was busy but no so much that there were waits for anything. We were surprised that all top rope climbs already had GRIGRIs attached but the learning curve is shallow if you have any belaying experience on other devices (such as an ATC or Jul) so we took the belay test to get certified right after getting our gear on. The majority of the rope and boulder setting is done on smooth walls so if you are more familiar with smearing on rough walls which are prominent at some other gyms, be prepared to reconsider how you approach certain moves. Route grading felt a bit soft for me but I still found the setting and use of volumes to be creative. Overall great experience as a visitor.
That's a great place! The only downside is that magnesia is allowed and even encouraged. So much that it's impossible to not be covered of it. In France we don't use magnesia for bouldering, and it works great. Other than that, everything is perfect.
Great climbing gym with friendly staff. Grades are by color and not on the V scale so they give you a bit more of a feeling of liberty to try different colors. Staff helped with selection of shoes giving us lots of sizes and options. I only bouldered but the climbing walls also looked pretty cool. The fitness area upstairs was suitable, took care of what I needed for lifting. Lots of places to sit and do work as well if that’s your thing (It was my thing today). Overall would recommend.
