I am writing this as both a frustrated parent and a local Nurse Practitioner. I was very hopeful to have a local, like minded, holistic provider available for my son's pediatrician, though my experiences with this practice, have been consistently disappointing and concerning. Regarding my son’s care with Dr. Masuma: I have had to excessively advocate for appropriate evaluation and follow-up. My son has had persistently low blood counts despite iron supplementation. Initial concerns were minimized, and it was only after I pushed for repeat testing and iron studies that we discovered his ferritin was undetectable. This should not have been overlooked. He has always has issues with restless sleep (a common sign of iron deficiency) but without my pushing it would have not been looked into. We are now required to schedule office visits solely to order labs, and then return again to review them - inefficient, unnecessary and financially driven. Additionally, Dr. MacField has refused to order a basic celiac disease screening, which is well within the scope of primary care and standard of care in a child with iron deficiency anemia. Instead, she insisted on referral to a GI specialist for this initial screening, which is inappropriate use of specialty resources and delays care for children who truly need urgent GI consultation. Continuity and preparedness are also lacking. At nearly every visit, she does not recall my son or his history, and I am forced to repeatedly remind her of prior issues, labs, and plans. Reviewing notes before entering a visit is basic, responsible practice. As a newborn, my son had a tongue tie that was dismissed despite feeding issues and weight loss; he was labeled failure to thrive. I trusted my instincts, sought care from an IBCLC, and had the tongue tie corrected. He immediately gained weight and has thrived since. Ironically, after this, she is now trained in tongue ties and is willing to acknowledge this can be an issue. Office visits are frequently unproductive. There is little discussion of growth trends, development, anticipatory guidance, or evidence-based pediatric counseling. Instead, visits often veer into unrelated tangents. Most alarming, I was once advised to place my child on a ketogenic diet—this is not appropriate or safe pediatric advice, as children require adequate carbohydrates for growth and brain development. For context, my child already eats a balanced, whole-food diet with minimal processed foods or added sugars. Regarding Dr. Peter MacField: I saw him once for thyroid management. Rather than providing medical guidance, he told me I needed to “find God”. Inappropriate and unprofessional. My husband had a similarly unproductive visit. Overall, this practice may appeal to families seeking to have flexibility with the vaccine schedule, but be aware that there is minimal medical oversight. if you are looking for evidence-based medicine, appropriate workups, efficient use of visits, and professional boundaries, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. This review reflects my personal experience as both a local healthcare provider and a parent who had to repeatedly push for basic, standard-of-care medicine. I truly dislike leaving negative reviews and often choose not to leave one at all. However, I feel it’s important for parents to be aware of this experience. Medical care for our children is incredibly important, and parents should feel heard and supported—not dismissed—when raising concerns. I encourage other parents to trust their instincts and advocate for their children. Based on our experience, this practice was not a good fit for our family.
Dr Peter is wonderful too work with on my healthcare. He listens and asks questions. Does a good job of explaining his recommendations.
My experience with Dr. Peter so far has been excellent. He is knowledgeable, attentive, and truly takes the time to listen, which I really appreciate. The only reason I am giving four stars instead of five is due to my experience with the front desk. Since my husband and I became patients, I have visited the office three times and unfortunately have not had a positive experience with the receptionist. She often seems impatient, and most questions are met with “I don’t know” without offering an alternative solution or directing me to someone who can help. I understand that not everyone has all the answers, but a more caring and helpful approach would make a big difference and better reflect the quality of care Dr. Peter provides. Karina Saigeon.
Dr. Macfield takes time to examine my WHOLE child. While holistic principles are applied, she does not shy away from modern medicine when needed. The balance of these two is perfect for our family. We feel seen and heard, and well taken care of!
A couple who are both doctors are good at their jobs. I have been with them for nearly two year. They are great with kids and a decent ^__^ bedside manner. HOWEVE, read the fine print with the billing. They have a three tier billing system for their patients. There's a regular check is, but worth it. The downside they didn't tell me about their second or third tier billing code/standard when I asked Ms. Dr. Macfield to look at something on my child. Then at the end I got a surprised bill that was high. When I tried to talk with someone they told me to talk to the doctor. It became difficult to have a chat. I felt like I got the run around in the end about my surprise bill. THEY ARE WORTH IT; just make sure you read the fine print about the 3 tier billing system before asking them about a concern about your child beyond a regular child check up. *They don't hassle you about shots and vaccines.
