I have just completed Mark’s 10-Week Plein Air painting class, and would highly recommend it to anyone regardless of their perceived ability. I have not painted in 10 years, and yet, with Mark’s excellent teaching and patience, I have made considerable progress in a few short weeks. Mark is an excellent teacher, and great at breaking down complex concepts and reminding you to take a step back and focus on the fundamentals. I will definitely be enrolling in another course soon! I really enjoyed the landscape oil painting classes with Mark Feiler, especially the plein air sections. As a self-taught beginner, I only painted from reference photos and never had a chance to receive a professional feedback. I was confused with too much information from books and the internet. Mark’s course is super practical to me. Mark is an excellent teacher who has helped me understand and focus on the essential principles for a landscape painting. I would definitely join Mark’s classes again when I have a chance.
I’ve just finished the 10 week Landscape Painting and Plein Air course with Mark. I’m no stranger to art classes and I have to say this has been one of the best. We had 5 weeks of lessons in the studio to set us up with the foundational techniques and tried and true methods used by the landscape masters, then it was out into the world to some great locations to try and make sense of it all. There’s no substitute for years and years of painting of course, but I feel like I have learned so much from this course and genuinely came away with a solid approach to making sense of what I am seeing and working towards making a painting which captures the day, light and atmosphere of the place. This is not a generic painting class, but specifically targeted to paining en plein air. The difference is that Mark (gently) will simply not let you ignore the foundations and will steer you back in the right direction by reinforcing what was learned previously. This is NOT like going to a physiotherapist (eg. Pay the money and not do the recommended exercises). Mark is so knowledgeable and passionate about art, but also so encouraging and down to earth. I enjoyed our conversations and will most definitely be back to debate the colour of the Brisbane River in the next term.
Mark is a very professional and focussed art tutor. He is flexible with students choice of subject matter and works fluidly with beginners and advanced students. Mark shares his in-depth knowledge of drawing fundamentals, painting techniques and colour theory in a considered and easy to understand manner. I recommend his classes to painters at all levels of experience.
Initially skeptical about enrolling in an online sketching course, I am thrilled to share that my experience surpassed all expectations. Thanks to Mark's expert guidance, my sketching and shading abilities have noticeably improved. Mark's patience, encouragement, and customized materials tailored to our needs made the learning process both effective and enjoyable. His depth of knowledge and skillfulness truly set him apart. Highly recommend!
