My barber (Josh) seemed very nice so I’ve debated on if I should write this review or not. I found Central Oak Barbers through a search of local spots, they have great reviews but my experience was underwhelming. I entered the shop and sat down, it was several minuets before anyone acknowledged me. When my barber finally looked up from his phone he asked if I was here to check in. He cut my hair and did a decent job on the blend but really messed the back hairline up. I got home and my partner quickly pointed out that it looked as if someone cut a HIGH curve at the bottom of my hairline. I asked him to fade it but his mind must have been elsewhere because for the whole cut we sat in awkward silence. By the end of the cut I just wanted to get out of there. i asked him for his name at the end of it and he kindly thanked me and walked off after showing me the computer to check out. I won’t be going back.
Very peaceful barbershop with great vibes. I’ve been going to Alyssa for fades for a while now and fully trust her when I’m in her chair. The whole shop has an easygoing, welcoming culture. Everyone is friendly and everything is done simply and exceptionally well. I also take my 4 year old son here for an expensive but really good kids’ haircut. Highly recommend.
I went back and forth on whether to write this review only because I know barbers are mostly independent and my initial thought was it wasn't that bad and I enjoyed my conversation with the barber. It was only after scrolling through my ledger and remembering that I paid $80 for a buzz cut and a beard trim that I kind of just said, you know what, people should know. I had a premium full service barber in the past and at most with tip I'd be looking at $50. He did everything from giving me a stylish all around cut and lining me up with a razor to a shoulder rub and various lotions. This is what I expected and would've happily paid for. However, what I got wasn't even what I asked for. I wanted the top shaved but not with a razor. Basically just a buzz cut and a beard trim. She took it down razor close with clippers. Quite impressive but not what I asked for. But hey, that's good value as the cut would last a bit longer. Where I really got taken was the beard trim. The length was prefect but around the chin was uneven, she didn't line the jaw line, instead leaving hair under my chin, the hair on my chin grew out uneven and I had to get it touched by a proper barber. She didn't ask where to set the side burns and brought them down to the bottom of my ear which would not be my preference. She applied cream but didn't line me up with a razor. What she did to my mustache was total trash and had to be retouched. At $30-$40 I would've just let it go and not gone back but at $80, this was a total rip off. If you're new to barbering or don't know how to cut hair to a high standard, or if you aren't assertive enough to clarify what the customer wants politely, pay your dues at super cuts, the mall, or fantastic sam's, not at a barber shop. Most places charge less for a buzz cut but I was definitely charged for a hair cut. I'm pretty sure I just got over charged but she definitely had no idea what she was doing with the beard trim. I can take clippers to myself. I'm paying for crisp establishing lines for when I shave between trims. Understand that and grow.

You unintentionally put my worries At ease for a style That I would forever be too scared to get. (A mullet style.) I was in St Pete for a vacation and needed a fresh trim. I travel allot and so always research the Barber I will visit! I booked with Nelson and was hugely impressed from the initial communication. Once I visited, Nelson took me through exactly how he would shape my hair which i'm very specific about!. Very personable and interesting it made for an outstanding cut and exactly to my needs. If i lived in St Pete I would be sure to visit Nelson and Central Oak Barber Co. on a regular basis. Really cool guys and vibe. I great gem in St Pete. Highly recommend.
