Excellent service. Food was good, however I believe we received the wrong steak. We ordered eye fillet however when it came it looked more like scotch fillet. It was thin and had a bit of fat all through it. I wasn't overly fussed as I do like scotch fillet too but my husbands steak was quite fatty which was disappointing. If it was eye fillet, it wasn't great quality. When we came to pay, we were charged for scotch fillet so I assume the person taking our order misheard. We would return though as besides this, the meals were nice and the staff were friendly. Especially the front of house male attendant (assuming in charge). I didn't get his name but his customer service was excellent.
It’s a great looking restaurant and the service was definitely good - friendly and attentive. I just felt the mains were lacking a little bit. The chicken ballotine was a bit dry, it needed more sauce and maybe something a bit acidic to cut through the saltiness of the other flavors. And for the price, I feel that the steak should at least come with a little salad or chips. A smearing of pomme puree on the plate was more decorative than anything. Plus the steak was a bit overcooked for a medium rare. The entrees we had were very good and full of flavor though. And the kids meal was extremely generous with a huge burger patty and amazing fries.
Very expensive and not well cooked. Very disappointing for an establishment claiming to be serving a modern grill menu. Only 1 good dish was the sticky date pudding.
We spent $200 on what was supposed to be a celebration dinner, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The Barramundi ($60) was completely tasteless with soft, soggy skin and no flavour at all. The Szechuan potato side dish tasted like overcooked potatoes fried in dirty oil — more like low-quality street food. The dozen Kilpatrick oysters ($58) were just covered in BBQ sauce with no sign of Worcestershire flavour. The $78 steak, ordered medium-well, came out well-done and was served with oily, burnt onion rings. This restaurant has really gone downhill — it used to be so much better. Very disappointing, and we won’t be coming back.
Coal Cellar + Grill: Feed Me Experience for Two – Disappointing Overall The evening started on a high note – the starters set strong expectations. The oysters, kangaroo, and salmon were all delicious, well-balanced, and beautifully presented. Unfortunately, the quality dropped sharply with the mains. Visually, they resembled an average pub dinner. Out of the many sides on offer, the chef’s choice for us was a bowl of plain leaves and chips – an uninspired pairing. The chicken was completely tasteless, with the only redeeming dish being the beef. Desserts were beautifully plated but lacked flavour impact. The brûlée, in particular, had an odd texture reminiscent of mashed potato rather than a smooth custard. Service was average for a busy Saturday evening, but lacked attention to detail. The table was not wiped between courses, and without asking, the waitress opened another bottle of sparkling water and served it to us. Overall, the experience did not live up to expectations. While the starters showed promise, the rest of the meal and service fell short. Not an experience we would repeat or recommend.
