Donatello’s is an absolute gem. The Italian food is amazing and the service is truly exceptional. We had the Fettuccine Alla Bolognese (I still dream about it), along with a Caesar salad and calamari—every single dish was outstanding. The attention and care from the waitstaff made the experience even better; they were fabulous without being overbearing. As we were leaving, they were setting up a family-style dinner, which was so great to see and really added to the authentic feel of the place. Truly authentic Italian cuisine, a warm atmosphere, and a restaurant I will absolutely return to the next time I’m in the area.

Donatello is one of those Tampa spots you don’t stumble into by accident. We actually found this place through Tampa Bites & Sites, and it instantly lived up to the hype. Old-school Italian atmosphere, warm service, and food that feels like it’s been done the same right way for decades. The dining room has real character, the bar is always lively, and the little traditions—like the roses—add to the experience. This is the kind of place that reminds you why Tampa’s long-standing restaurants matter. Classic, authentic, and absolutely worth the visit.

This has to be the biggest waste of money in Tampa. The service was the only redeeming quality. They want to have an old school mob feel, but in reality it’s just an out dated restaurant with 70’s porn lighting. My fiancée and I got the beef carpaccio which had to be the worst carpaccio we’ve ever had. It had absolutely zero flavor and was the least marbled piece of meat I’ve ever seen. After that we got the lamb for two which cost $150. The lamb/sauce was decent, but they have the nerve to serve it with one tomato cut in half with some cheese on it and 1 completely unseasoned, barely cooked piece of broccoli. I can’t believe this place has been in business for as long as it has. Not to mention the drinks are a complete afterthought. No effort whatsoever.

I had an incredible experience at this restaurant. From the moment you walk in with someone opening the door and greeting you to the live music that is everyday, this is a must try!! The food was excellent and it made me feel like I was in Italy having a meal! Very authentic, fresh ingredients and very tasty!! If you are anywhere remotely in the Tampa area, you have to give this restaurant a try, which knows, maybe I will see you there because I will definitely be back!!!

Coming from New York and seeing an authentic Italian restaurant made me feel as if I could trust that the food would be exceptional. To me it was very basic and to charge 40 dollars for a pasta with just tomato and basil and call it something more fancy then what it is, is just criminal. I won’t say it was terrible but for the prices and the supposed “upscale” dining it was something you could easily make in your own home. I think the people in Tampa don’t know what real good food is because I could go to a local pizza shop in ny and get better quality then this .
