I would recommend working with a salesperson. I ordered a bed and mattress on the website. After 4 weeks, I had heard nothing and went online to cancel. The next business day I "coincidentally" got a call from them wanting to schedule my delivery. I like their stuff, but wasn't blown away by the experience. They knew I wasn't happy and sent an email soliciting a review anyway - so here it is! I would have skipped, but the person who called to schedule was a little snarky about it.
Beth was great!! She made it super easy to find the items I needed. Plus she helped me pick out all the right colors from the couch to to the pillows.
I did not give EA five stars because of the sticker shock of the shipping/delivery fee. I'm being generous with four because we are quite happy with the design of our dining room chair that we use in our small living room. The process of design was excellent. But when I was told about the delivery cost ($300) I was unplesantly surprised. But by then we were too excited about the product to walk away. I would have been happier to know that cost up front. Even more happy if I could have cut the cost by picking it up at the store. But there was no flexibility in the business model. The delivery process was good except that the phone number that we gave was transposed so we never received a phone call. The company did keep us up to date with the delivery through email - so that was good. The delivery man was excellent.
While Ethan Allen's product quality is great, their customer service and delivery are utterly abysmal. Gouging customers $300 per delivery, for items as simple as a rug or two dining chairs, is predatory and outrageous, followed by a month-long delay after items hit the local facility. In today's world of free or next-day shipping, this archaic, exploitative system is a total disgrace.
The selection was great! I had picked a few online, and Julie Mendel knew right where they were located and suggested a few similar options. She was knowledgeable about which leathers were best for our circumstances and what colors would work. She had good suggestions about cushions and how to tailor them for our needs. We had a too-notch experience at Ethan Allen in Omaha.
