Shop itself looks a bit tired but the staff were friendly and the chap whom I asked for advice couldn't have been more helpful. He advised where my money would be best spent, had great knowledge of the manga and I came away with some gifts that my teenager was really pleased with. They have a pretty good range of collectibles, loads of manga and whilst some of it is pricey (it's imported so one would expect that) there is definitely something for all price ranges. Will be returning.
I always make a point of visiting Forbidden Planet if there is one where I am visiting. I genuinely wanted to like this one and there was still interest here for me, but it all looked a bit muddled and constrained. Upstairs I felt more like I was looking through a stock room than an actual shop front. I get that there are limits here given the size of the property, but surely that is all the more reason to get clever and creative with the floor space that is available. An easy win would be to lose the obviously seen better days carpet. It drags the whole vibe of the place down into a backstreet when I feel the quality you still have on offer deserves a more high street ready look in which to shine. I feel bad saying this, and I would definitely still be back again. But like an old friend who seems to have fallen on hard times I just want to see you do as well as I know you can do.
I usually like Forbidden Planet, but my recent visit to the Cardiff store was disappointing. The staff member who served me seemed a bit cold, and I later found the Berserk Deluxe Edition I bought for £48 is only £32 on their website. Do better
Amazing customer service and an amazing treasure trove of high quality products. The staff are very friendly and eager to help. Absolutely love this shop
It's been a long time since I set foot into a FP and clearly a lot has changed. Specifically, this place is filthy. The whole shop is in desperate need of a good scrub, and refresh. Floors are cakes in grime like the floor of an old mistreated car and and dotted with chewing gum- even the walks have tide marks where hands have been. As for stock, apparently FP is now basically a temple to Funko Pops, with weeb paraphernalia to the point you think it's some kind of Temu depot where everything has been marketed up 10x, and shelves of 'cool kidz' manga. I guess the market is significantly different now but it it means there is is amost nothing in here for you anyone over the age of 25 nerd wise. Daft as it sounds, there litterally more in HMV up the street.
