We joined after taking a pre-novice obedience training class. My daughter is really interested in dog training and wanted to get her dog qualified as a Canine Good Citizen. She ended up really enjoying doing obedience and agility. Everyone was very welcoming and is very patient with newcomers. You don't have to be a "pro" to participate. FWOTC offers all different types of classes, and they have a variety of events. If you are interested in working with your dog or puppy to improve his/her behavior, or if you are interested in getting involved in getting qualifications for your dog, or even in competing, the FWOTC has a good option for you. One issue is the location. (This is the only reason that I gave four stars instead of five.) The location is very far to the north of Fort Wayne by the Allen County Fairgrounds. There is a LOT of traffic out that way which adds to the drive time. So... it is not conveniently located at all, unless you live on the far north. But for us, there have been times when I could not sign my daughter up for the training classes that she wanted to take in the evenings because by the time the class was over and we made the drive home, it would have been very, very late. I (really) wish it were more centrally located. But, overall, we are glad to have joined and will probably renew the membership.

Great place if youre looking to get involved with a dog sport, or are a beginner just looking to train your dog for basic obedience and manners. They have agility, STAR puppy, scent ATT, CGC, CGA, CGCU, both UKC and AKC obedience and Rally knowledgable and conformation, etc- and just about everything else if you just email they probably know about it or can point you in the right direction.

As a certified dog trainer myself, I enjoy taking my puppies to group classes for socialization. It’s also a good learning opportunity! I was extremely disappointed with multiple aspects of the training. And it’s employees. Firstly JJ was wonderful, and seemed very Knowledgeable, and in my opinion should have been the only one running the puppy class. The other instructors, were quite rude and did not seem to know what they were doing. Trainers are supposed to help you and support you through training. They seemed more interested in telling clients all they are doing wrong, rather than supporting them and correcting them kindly. Also at least 2 puppies were given choke chain collars, due to pulling while walking. If you as a reputable trainer are to ever give someone an adversive tool you must teach them how to use them properly. The collars were being used by the owners without any proper instruction. I’d recommend going with a Herm sprenger prong, rather than the choke chain. I personally felt like this establishment is being run by people who are stuck in their ways, who aren’t willing to adjust to new standards in dog training. I do not recommend. The reason they get 2 stars is purely because of JJ. She is great!

We have been off and on members for a few years now. We have 2 dogs that attend classes. We had one of our dogs get attacked while on a walk in our housing addition. I emailed and asked to have someone from the club call. They called and we discussed some options. We tried another class and each person in the class was given a heads up that my dog had been attacked and needed some extra space and time to understand not all dogs will attack them. Trainers at the club are understanding and caring. They are volunteers not paid trainers so they may not be able to answer every question but they will tell you who can answer your question if they don't know the answer. It's a great place to work with your dog and help them burn some energy.
