Went to leave my house today & realized I wasn't going anywhere because my tire was totally flat. When tow driver arrived, he pointed out the tire & said I had a blowout. He was able to get car to Gateway Tire on Poplar (across from East High school) in time for salesperson Christian Castro to order me a tire. (It's Thanksgiving eve & my tire size is not one they normally carry in the store, so they have to order it.) I didn't mind waiting because they almost always have popcorn for you to enjoy while you wait. There's also a computer station so you can work or recharge your devices while you wait. I did not price shop or compare prices. When it's an older car & the tire is now an uncommon size which is not carried in regular stock in most places, it's hard to compare prices. But I appreciate the fact that Christian was able to look me up in his computer to see what tires I got last time. (I only got two new tires last time & now a single. I decided to hold off on a second tire today.) Tow driver knew of places that would sell me a used tire for $50 or $60. But as a senior female I am not comfortable putting used tires on my car. For me it would be penny wise & pound foolish.
The people here are kind and prompt. The crew there is always on top of things and working hard. I do not mind waiting on our vehicle because I know these guys are not slacking or messing around. They are truly working the entire time and we are grateful for their consistency and effort. My wife came there a few years ago after we paid for insurance to send over someone to help her replace a tire. They replaced the tire but did not tighten the lug nuts back on properly. She stopped into Gateway and they took care of tightening them for her free of charge and kept her and our babies safe that day. Truly a great staff on hand. We never feel like they are trying to drain us for more than the services requested or required. Thank you for upholding kindness and respect with your customers.
I went to Gateway Tire Service June 5, 2025 because my windshield wiper fluid was barely spraying on my windows. Customer service technician # 3240 had a diagnostic analysis done to find that I needed my windshield wiper fluid pump replaced. After the diagnostic test, I was very disappointed with the cost of $340 to replace the pump. Since I had already pointed out the problem, it is logical to include the diagnostic in the full price of replacement. Customer service technician #3240 was very rude when I questioned the pricing, so I mentioned that I had been to other Gateways that included diagnostic in the complete pricing of the service. I expressed my disappointment in his service and that I would probably not be coming back to this particular Gateway. My windshield wiper fluid never gave a full squirt after the service and is not squirting at all now. I found time to go back to Popular Gateway on August 9, 2025 at 7:40 a.m.. A different technician called me to the desk for service while technician #3240 from June was helping someone else. The technician #3240 left his computer and overstepped the technician who was helping me to rudely insult me about comments I made in June about not coming back to this particular Gateway. (I paid $340 to end up with a worse problem than I started with. This problem still belongs to the Gateway on Popular Avenue; that's why I came back.) I was about to give my keys to him, but made a decision amidst his non-customer service insults, to just walk out the door. I need this problem resolved at the same place where I started. Before technician #3240, I was very happy with Gateway services on Poplar. Update: August 18, 2025 10:15 AM A few days before this date, I received an email from Regional Manager: Barbara Lott and a call from Store Manager: Mario Carter to bring my truck back in to Gateway on Poplar Avenue in Memphis, TN to resolve the windshield washer problem. Mario was pleasantly professional as he presented my concern to an automotive technician for research and repair. I also requested to check my front-right tire for a slow leak. The windshield washer sprayer was properly repaired and Mario had me come out to view the results. My tire needed to be replaced at my request due to a slow leak that found a hole on the inside area of the tire. I was not recharged for the windshield washer concern, but I was fairly charged for the new tire and services for installation. I am very happy with my resolve and I thank Mario for being great at customer service and management! I look forward to continuing business at Gateway on Poplar Avenue in Memphis, TN. as I have done for the past 10 years! Ms. Essie Stigall
To say I was overdue for my tire was an understatement. Since I moved to Memphis and pretty much got it on my replacements here, the oldest one still looks just as good as the newest one.
TLDR: If you leave their shop with an issue, its your problem. I had a honda civic that I wanted to buy and took it to get a diagnosis, the result were great with just simple old age issues. 2 hours after getting the diagnosis the owner of the car called, telling me there was liquid noises, his radiator sensor getting very hot and he has problems starting his car without a jump. Their inspection checked both the radiator and the battery saying it was fine. I called about this issue and the staff acted like it wasn't their problem and gave me an attitude about it even though THEIR DIAGNOSIS SHOWED IT WAS FINE. They then pressed me and asked what I wanted from them, got offended when I said they may have made a mistake on the car and want to know how they did the inspection. They never gave me a clear answer and the assistant manager told me "If you think we tampered with the car you can check our footage." then hung up. I wasted $90 and 5 hours of my time to get no assurance and attitude for asking questions when something went wrong. Update: Barbara never contacted me for a solution. We found out the issues are old spark plug wires and the radiator was too old and cracked which is difficult to check and tell before hand. The inspections only tell what they see as it is in their shop and they take no responsibility for what happens to the car once outside of the shop. Even if it breaks down in less than an hour.
