Loved this spot! The food tasted truly authentic and reminded me of home-style Mexican cooking. The enchiladas were delicious, and the beans and rice were simple but so flavorful. We started with a cheese appetizer that was warm and cheesy in the best way. The flan was the perfect finish—smooth, creamy, and not overly sweet. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, making it a great place to sit, eat, and enjoy the experience. Definitely coming back if you’re craving real Mexican food.
My husband and I had a blessed evening at this restaurant. It was our first time but certainly will not be our last. My husband ordered Carne en au Jugo and I had Pallard de Pollo. Both meals were superb and each bite was so tender it melted in our mouths and the unique flavor needed to be shared between us to be fully appreciated. Our server Edgar checked back with us throughout our time there and was a delight to talk to.
What an unforgettable evening at Herencia in Albuquerque! From the moment we stepped into this gem of a restaurant, we were enveloped in a warm, elegant atmosphere that perfectly blends upscale Mexican heritage with modern flair. The marble tabletops, subtle lighting, and vibrant orchids adorning each plate set the stage for a culinary journey that celebrated bold flavors and fresh, locally sourced ingredients. It's clear why this spot has quickly become a standout in the Duke City dining scene. We started with the Assorted Mini Tacos, and oh, what a revelation they were! Tender, slow-braised short rib (reminiscent of their Costilla De Res) piled high on soft corn tortillas, topped with crumbly queso fresco, fresh microgreens, and a drizzle of cilantro. Accompanied by grilled pineapple that added a sweet, smoky char, pico de gallo bursting with ripe tomatoes and chiles, and an array of house-made salsas— from a zesty green tomatillo to a tangy habanero aioli and a rich mole reduction—these tacos were a symphony of textures and tastes. Each bite transported us straight to the streets of Mexico City, but with an elevated twist that made them feel luxurious. Next up were the Lobster Enchiladas, a true highlight from their Del Mar section. Succulent lobster folded into corn tortillas, smothered in a velvety chipotle crema sauce that's rich yet balanced with a subtle heat. Served alongside vibrant cilantro-lime rice and grilled seasonal vegetables like zucchini, carrots, and onions, the dish was garnished with more queso fresco and fresh herbs. The flavors melded beautifully—creamy, spicy, and fresh—all while the orchid garnish added that signature Herencia touch of elegance. We couldn't resist the Camarones Al Ajillo for our seafood course. Plump, garlic-infused shrimp grilled to perfection, nestled atop the same herbaceous green rice and a medley of charred veggies, with a side of bright mango-habanero sauce for dipping. The shrimp were juicy and aromatic, with just the right amount of citrus zing from a lemon wedge, making every forkful feel like a coastal escape. To cap off the night, the Flan de Nuez was pure indulgence—a silky caramel custard crowned with fluffy whipped cream and a scattering of fresh berries like blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries, all swimming in a pool of house-made caramel sauce. It was the perfect sweet finale, light yet decadent, with the berries providing a tart contrast that kept us savoring every spoonful. Throughout the meal, our server Eric was an absolute star—attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu's inspirations from Chef Henrique Valdovinos' family recipes, and quick with spot-on recommendations that elevated our experience. He made us feel like VIPs, ensuring our glasses were never empty. Herencia isn't just a meal; it's a celebration of Mexican culinary legacy with a contemporary edge. If you're in Albuquerque, do yourself a favor and book a table—you won't regret it. Five stars all the way!
We live in Las Cruces and come to ABQ every now and then to hit Trader Joe's and make a fun weekend of it. We really don't have any great restaurants in town, so when in ABQ, we enjoy trying new places with great food! We came across Herencia's menu and knew we had to have lunch here. The weather was just right to enjoy our meal on the patio. Kevin was our server and he could teach the art of how to care for customers. He was FANTASTIC and took care of our every need! My friend has severe nut allergies and I'm vegetarian. We both had the Mexico City Street Quesadillas and I subbed one of mine. The sauces were delish! I think my faves were the Poblano and cheese, and zucchini blossoms with Panela cheese. We were there on Dia de los Muertos and the owner popped by to welcome us and gave us a sugar skull cookie. What a 'sweet' treat! Not only did we feel cared for as patrons, but the food was AH-MAZING! Would highly recommend. We know that Herencia's will always be a part of our trips to ABQ in the future. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of us. We appreciate you and will see you next time.☺️ PS: If they opened earlier for breakfast on Sundays, we would have loved to enjoy brunch there too! Maybe next time!
We have been here a few times now and have had a great experience every time. Inside and Outside seating, attentive staff, and quality food keeps us coming back. All food is gluten free Upon arrival a selection of salsas are offered with chips, the drink menu has beer/wine/cocktail choices. Each category has only a few selections, every item on the seafood menu is phenomenal! At this visit we enjoyed lobster tacos and cod, both cooked to perfection. There are multiple flavors of flan, our favorite so far is pecan. The restaurant is on the pricey side (lunches ~$24, dinner ~$36) and a reservation is recommended. We'll be back!
