First the positives. The robotic reindeers is great for kids and entertained our wee one no end. However, that's where it ends. The cafe is slow, very slow. The staff are great but they either need more staff or a better system for dealing with busy periods. We also bought Christmas lights on a previous visit that didn't work when we hung them up and wanted to return them. The manager came and plugged them in but they now lit up (I can only assume it didn't light when hung up because of a loose connection somewhere) and told I couldn't get a refund, only a credit note. In the end I had to accept the credit note but will unlikely be back to Hillside ever again.
I recently visited this garden centre and was genuinely impressed by how beautiful the Christmas shop and displays were. The décor was stunning, festive, and clearly put together with a lot of care. It’s a lovely place to wander around, especially at this time of year. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the café. We arrived only 12 minutes after breakfast had finished, and although that was disappointing, what followed was even more so. The children’s lunch meals weren’t ready yet—one customer in front of me had to settle for a sausage and a plate of crisps for her wee boy because nothing else was available. I asked if it would be possible to get just a piece of toast for my 14 month old, but the chef gave a firm no without offering any alternatives. When I asked what was suitable for a toddler, I was told about a kids’ box… which included a piece of fruit and Haribo. Not exactly what you’d hope for a young child. It was a very disappointing experience in what is otherwise a lovely setting. The garden centre itself is wonderful, but the café really let the visit down. With just a bit more flexibility and consideration.. especially for families with young children.. it could be so much better.
Excellent garden centre and restaurant. The garden centre is large and has many different items for everyone. A great Christmas store. The ornaments and decorations are fantastic. I would highly recommend.
GR8 place to visit even if just for coffee and scones in the cafeteria. Plants and flowers are beautiful and the other gift ideas are plentiful. We missed the monkey's that were in the entry but still enjoyed our visit
This is a beautiful nursery to visit. The layout is superb and very well presented. The displays were well set up, and by the entrance. There was a wide selection of small plants, shrubs and garden accessories as well as pots etc. The BBQ and garden areas are well laid out and easy to spot the prices. Entrance is open with someone on hand to deal with any queries. Well signed so not hard to find what you are looking for. Love this place and will definitely be back.
