A tiny place in Fitzrovia. We had a deal voucher so thought to check their tasting menu out. It was good for the deal we had but I wouldn’t pay full price for the menu if I were to go there again. However, might be good for people who like wagyu meat. The tables are really small and close together therefore you feel squashed and it doesn’t feel cozy or enjoyable at all. We had to ask for a different table twice: once because our table was next to a huge fire extinguisher and the second time because the people at the table next to ask spoke so loudly we couldn’t hear each other (literally). The staff were understanding though and allowed us to do it and thankfully there was availability.
I went there for the 5 course seafood & wagyu tasting menu and absolutely loved it! There is a lot of food so make sure you’re hungry! I also did the drinks pairing which was a very decent price of £13 per person. The whole experience was amazing, every single part of the meal was delicious, loved the variety of dishes and the authentic Japanese experience! Also have to mention that the service was 5 stars, the staff was very attentive and friendly, explaining all the dishes very well.
We were pretty skeptical at first - but this was delicious! It was more filling than expected and the drinks pairing was delightful, especially the white wine. The tempura sushi role was one of the best sushi rolls I have had. The fish was very fresh and the grated wasabi was so flavourful. Amazing wagyu and butterfish too. I will say the menu was a little confusing due to all the add ons and the fact that we had gift vouchers. Service could have done a little better at explaining this. And due to the nature of the hot stones it did get quite smokey in there. Other than that absolutely no complaints and a delightful, unique experience!
Tried the 5-course menu at Hot Stone and honestly, the value is kind of mad for what you get. We started with a classic sashimi box, really fresh, and the tableside grated wasabi was a nice touch. The sushi course was solid. The crunchy roll had great texture but was a bit heavy on the rice, while the butterfish roll was definitely the standout. We added an extra course and swapped the premium fatty tuna for a salmon dish, which the chef prepared specially for us. Really appreciated that flexibility. The seasonal omakase had some great bites. The grilled mackerel was exceptional, followed closely by the scallops. The hot stone course is what they're known for, and it didn't disappoint. We had both beef and a pescatarian option, plus added the A5 Wagyu, scallop, and tiger king prawn, which made it feel even more special. Finished with a simple, home-made Japanese dessert. Great experience overall, attentive service, and genuinely impressive value for a tasting-style menu.
Overall, a pretty pleasant experience. We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated quickly. Just a note for anyone purchasing a voucher online — you’ll need to book your reservation using the voucher details, and there are set time slots specifically for the 5-course menu days. The pacing of the courses varied a bit; a few dishes took longer to arrive than others, but it seemed consistent with what other tables were experiencing as well. Despite the wait times, the food quality was high, especially the Wagyu and seafood selections. We enjoyed the afternoon and would consider coming back for a special occasion.
